Gombe United should have defeated Shooting Stars, says Madu

The Savannah Scorpions' skipper insists his side ought to have secured a victory against the Oluyole Warriors in Gombe on Sunday

Gombe United's Sani Madu believes his side had no excuse failing to defeat Shooting Stars after they were held to a 1-1 draw at the Pantami Stadium on Sunday.

The Savannah Scorpions had their hopes for a home victory punctured no thanks to a late strike from the Oluyole Warriors as Manu Garba’s men suffered their third home draw of the season.

The captain, however, blamed his side’s home slip on their missed scoring chances but remains confident they can bounce back against Kano Pillars.

“We are disappointed to have failed to win at home,” Madu told Goal.

“I couldn’t believe we could concede such a late goal. It was a good match and performance from both teams.

“We dominated shooting stars at several moments of the game. I think we didn’t deserve to draw the game.

“We played very well and had many chances, even though Shooting Stars played well too but we should have won the match.

We just need to keep working hard, especially on our scoring. We are hoping we get something against Kano Pillars in our next game. It is a northern derby and I believe anything is possible for us in Kano.”

Gombe are 13th on the standing with 15 points from 13 games.
