Free State Stars have announced the release of eight players as part of their squad clear-out ahead of next season.

Former Orlando Pirates and FC Twente midfielder Nhlakanipho 'Nana' Ntuli has also been shown the exit door, six months after returning from Europe.

The 21-year-old failed to make any meaningful impact at Ea Lla Koto, managing just two appearances in the league between February and May 2017.

David Nkausu, Thabang Matuka, Nyiko Tshabangu, Mbuyiselo Thethani and Angelo Kerspuy all joined Ntuli on the list, while Bokang Tlhone and Moeketsi Sekola were allowed to leave having signed pre-contracts with Bidvest Wits and Highlands Park respectively.

This massive clear-out outlines Ea Lla Koto's plans to remain in the PSL for next season, while it also ends speculation over the future of the club.

The Bethlehem-based outfit is yet to announce their new signings or replacements of those who will be leaving the club.

Meanwhile, the club is expected to offer veteran defender Rooi Mahamutsa a new one-year deal after impressing in his first season in the Free State.
