The latest update in the FIFA rankings has seen no change in the position of Stephen Constantine's men...

The Indian national team continued to hold its 97th rank in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday. They have climbed eight places in 2018 after ending the year at the 105th spot in 2017.

The Blue Tigers were last in action in a friendly against Jordan which ended in a 2-1 defeat on November 17, 2018.

It is expected that the national team will again convene in New Delhi during the third week of December to prepare for the AFC Asian Cup (Asian Football Confederation).

India have another international friendly lined up on December 27 away to Oman who have climbed up a spot to 83 following their 2-1 win against Bahrain in November.

India put in a good shift against Jordan in spite of being stranded at the Kuwait airport for 32 hours. Constantine fielded a side without a genuine striker and most of the players were playing out of their natural position.  Nishu Kumar scored the goal for India which came too late to salvage a point from the match.

Stephen Constantine and co. are preparing for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup that will be held in UAE in January. They are placed in Group A alongside UAE, Bahrain and Thailand. Thailand have jumped three spots to be ranked 118 while UAE (79) have progressed by two places. But in spite of the loss to Oman, Bahrain maintain their position on the 112th spot.

Meanwhile, Belgium lead the overall rankings ahead of World Cup champions France. Brazil are third, followed by Croatia while England continue to be on the fifth spot. Portugal, Uruguay, Switzerland and Spain make up the top 10.
