Theophilus Afelokhai will be missing in Enyimba’s Federation Cup clash with Kano Pillars in the rescheduled quarterfinal tie at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe on Sunday.
Afelokhai is unlikely to be ready to face the Sai Masu Gida this weekend after failing to fully recover from his injury in last Wednesday’s Caf Confederation Cup game with Raja Casablanca.
The goalkeeper was forced off and eventually replaced by Ikechukwu Ezenwa in the People’s Elephant 1-0 loss to the Moroccans at the Enyimba Stadium after picking up a hamstring injury.
And the former Kano Pillars shot-stopper has ruled himself out of the tie, while predicting a tough encounter between Usman Abdullah’s men and his former employers.
“It is sad because I could not make the trip due to my injury,” Afelokhai told Goal.
“However, I have great confidence in my teammates to get the best result in Gombe. It will definitely be a tough match because of the quality of players in Kano Pillars.
I know them in and out as I have played for the team for some years. I strongly back my team to win the match. We need to win and bounce back from our home loss to Raja.”
The winner of the encounter will face Katsina United, who eliminated Kwara United in the semi-final of the competition at the Agege Stadium, Lagos next Wednesday.
