El Kanemi Warriors' away draw delights Michael Ohanu

The Borno Army attacker has described their away draw in Damaturu as a step in the right direction ahead of league restart

El Kanemi Warriors’ Michael Ohanu is confident that their recent away draw against Yobe Desert Stars in Damaturu has helped to improve their fitness level.

The Borno Army had earlier beaten Yobe Desert Stars 1-0 before the start of the season in the first leg of the friendly tie but the return leg played at the August 27th Stadium, Damaturu penultimate Friday ended in a goalless draw.

“It was another test game for us and a repeat of the one we played before the start of the season which we won narrowly 1-0,” Ohanu told Goal.

“We went for the game in Damaturu, not with the mindset of winning at all costs but to test our fitness level. We met Yobe Desert Stars equally prepared and it was a good match for both teams.

"They were very competitive and the goalless draw was just to show you that the tempo of the game was very fast. We were satisfied with the outcome of the game because besides playing a game the emphasis was on recording a good result and we got both."

“We are all working towards the same goal which is to escape the relegation zone,” he continued.

“It is tough presently because all the teams from the mid-table to the last position are separated by just a couple of points. We are only interested in our own and we are doing everything possible to ensure that we do not go down. It is the reason we have been involved in a series of friendly matches.”

El Kanemi Warriors are 13th in the league table with 29 points from 24 games.
