Bhutanese sensation Chencho Gyeltshen was the star of Minerva Punjab in the recently concluded I-League season. With seven goals and equal number of assists, Chencho spearheaded Minerva's attack in their title winning campaign.
A few Indian Super League (ISL) clubs along with the two Kolkata giants were fighting tooth and nail to secure his services for the upcoming season. But it seems that the forward will don the Red and Gold stripe next season after East Bengal turned out to be the highest bidder.
Ranjit Bajaj, owner of Minerva Punjab, confirmed that Chencho is on the verge of joining East Bengal.
"I have nothing against East Bengal. I know the fans think that I am the villain after the transfer fiasco. But transferring Chencho to them is a gift from my side as I had offers from other club," said Bajaj to Xtratime.
It is believed that Chencho himself has confirmed the news to his team-mates at Minerva.
Mohun Bagan and East Bengal were the final two contenders. Although Chencho has been successful in Minerva, playing for the big clubs in Kolkata Maidan is an altogether different ball game as there is pressure from media and fans. It remains to be seen whether the Bhutanese Sniper can continue his rich vein of form for his new club and guide them to the much coveted I-league title after 14 long years.
On the other hand, Minerva's wall in defence Sukhdev Singh is on the verge of joining Mohun Bagan. The two arch-rivals are locked in an intense bidding war for Singh and this time it seems that the Green and Maroon brigade are close to signing him for next season. This transfer saga is likely to end within the next few days.
