Cyril Nwaokoro calls Kano Pillars-Ngwa fixture an exciting challenge

The owner of the Aba-based side is confident that his team will shock Sai Masu Gida in their Federation Cup duel on Sunday

Ngwa United FC Proprietor, Rev Fr Cyril Nwaokoro says he is confident his boys will shock Kano Pillars in their Federation Cup Round of 64 tie in Lokoja on Sunday.

The Aba-based club competed in the same competition last year and even defeated the current Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Lobi Stars before bowing out to Sunshine Stars in the Round of 16.

Speaking ahead of the high profile encounter Nwaokoro noted that a fixture with a top team like Sai Masu Gida is one in which they were looking forward to before the draw was made and that they are happy that they have had their wish granted ahead of the showdown in Lokoja.

He said they would like to consolidate on their last season's feat when they got to the crucial stages of the competition even when they were not reckoned with and that they are hoping to eliminate Kano Pillars on Sunday.

“The tie with Kano Pillars is an exciting but difficult fixture and we are ready for the game because it is the type of game we wished for before the draw was made,” Nwaokoro told Goal.

“We want to show all that our result in the competition last year was no fluke and we are doing our best to move a step higher than we did last year. Kano Pillars are a top team but we are going to show them that we are equally good.

“We have been training very hard since we became the champions of Ebonyi State again this year and we are expecting a good game in Lokoja on Sunday. We won’t allow anything to intimidate us as soon as the game starts.

“There are a lot of distractions off the pitch because of the maintenance of the players and the team. It has not been easy but God has been faithful to us,” Nwaokoro continued.

“We are appealing to corporate bodies to come to our aid. It will help a lot to keep the spirit of the club burning. We won’t allow that to distract us beyond necessary because we are making move on our own to ensure that the players and the technical crew are happy.”
