Ghana midfielder Christian Atsu has reiterated his excitement to play for Premier League side Newcastle United ahead of the opening day game against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Although, earlier reports linked the 26-year-old with a move to Huddersfield Town he says it's an honour to represent the Magpies.

“When I was in Ghana, I knew Newcastle was a big club and for me it’s a dream and a great honour to play for them,” Atsu was quoted as saying by The Chronichle Live.

“My friends always say to me, ‘Wow, you are playing for Newcastle!’ I know this club is a very big club with a great history and it’s a joy to play for this team.

“I know there are a lot of fans here who are passionate about the club and you just need to adjust to that. It’s amazing. When we are playing away, the noise they make is like we are playing at home.
