Ashimeru delighted with Ghana call up ahead of friendlies

Wafa midfielder Majeed Ashimeru is elated after earning his debut Ghana call-up ahead of the Black Stars' friendly games against Mexico and USA on June 28 and July 1 respectively in the United States.

The 21-year-old alongside teammate Gideon Waja and Aduana Stars midfielder Zakaria Mumuni were promoted from the Black Stars team 'B' after the Ayew brothers pulled out of the trip.

“It’s a dream come true because every Ghanaian player hopes to play for the Black Stars,” Ashimeru told Abusua FM.

“I am happy to be invited into the team for the Mexico and USA games and I hope to enjoy the opportunity to the fullest.

“To be honest, the call up came as a surprise to me because I never expected it but I’m just joining the team to showcase my talent and also learn a lot from the experienced players around for the betterment of my future,” he added.

The Black Stars contingent left Accra on Friday. Miami FC striker Kwadwo Poku as well as Mohammed Abu are expected to join the team upon arrival.
