Asec Mimosas striker Amed Toure has admitted being ‘extremely happy’ to score against Aduana Stars in the Caf Confederation Cup Group A fixture in Abidjan on Sunday.
The 30-year-old fetched the only goal in the game for the hosts in first half with a header following a blunder from Aduana's Justice Anane.
"I was extremely happy to score a goal against Aduana Stars and more importantly the winner. Prior to the game, I promised to hit the back of the net so I needed to live up to the expectations," Toure told Oyerepa FM.
"If you critically watch the game again, you'll realise that we were even tired throughout the second-half. This was because we had played a derby game few days before this fixture and the same lineup was used.
"Our performance in the first-half was better and we managed to get the important goal which helped us to win," he added.
Toure also praised Aduana following their spirited performance but believes they need to improve to stand a chance of making it out of the group.
"I think Aduana also did well in the game and wanted to at least pick a point but several factors worked against them," he said.
"From my little observations, I think that their strikers need to improve in the remaining games. The midfielders created a lot of chances for them but they could not make it count. At this stage of the competition, such mistakes won't help them to qualify from the group.
"To set the records straight, I wouldn't have celebrated the goal if I had scored against Asante Kotoko or Bechem United because I played for them in the past and they really helped me at a point," he added.
