The Gunners were given something of a shock as they lost to Swansea and they will be eager to recover with a win at home

Arsenal will be desperate to bounce back from their midweek defeat to Swansea City when they host Everton at the Emirates on Saturday.

Despite going ahead, the Gunners were trounced 3-1 by the Swans on Tuesday, dealing a severe blow to their chances of clinching a top-four spot at the end of the season.

However, while on-field fortunes have been disappointing, off-field there have been plenty of positives for Arsene Wenger, with the acquisition of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil's commitment to a new contract.

A crunch North London derby against Tottenham is also on the horizon next week, so they will be eager to set themselves up nicely for that with a win.

SQUADS & TEAM NEWS

Position Arsenal players
Goalkeepers Ospina, Cech, Macey
Defenders Mertesacker, Koscielny, Mustafi, Holding, Chambers, Monreal, Bellerin, Mavropanos, Kolasinac, Osei-Tutu
Midfielders Mkhitaryan, Ramsey, Wilshere, Ozil, Iwobi, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles, Elneny, Dragomir, Willock, Gilmour
Forwards Lacazette, Aubameyang, Dasilva, Nketiah, Nelson

New signing Aubameyang could be in line to make his debut following his arrival from Borussia Dormund, but the Gabon international has been sick and his fitness is being monitored.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan will certainly start, but there are concerns over Jack Wilshere, who had been ill. Danny Welbeck is not quite ready to return.

Potential Arsenal starting XI: Cech; Koscielny, Mustafi, Monreal, Bellerin, Kolasinac; Ramsey, Mkhitaryan, Ozil, Xhaka, Wilshere; Lacazette.

Position Everton players
Goalkeepers Pickford, Robles, Hewelt
Defenders Keane, Williams, Jagielka, Mangala, Martina, Coleman, Holgate, Garbutt, Kenny, Feeney, Duke-McKenna
Midfielders Schneiderlin, Gueye, Sigurdsson, Klaasen, Davies, Vlasic, Baningime, Denny, Lavery, Hornby, Collins, Gordon
Forwards Bolasie, Rooney, Walcott, Tosun, Niasse, Calvert-Lewin, Broadhead

Everton will be without James McCarthy, who suffered a brutal leg-break last week, while Leighton Baines is also unavailable. Goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg is also out of action, as is Ramiro Funes Mori.

However, the Toffees have been given a major boost with the return to full fitness of Seamus Coleman and Theo Walcott comes into the game against his former club on a high after bagging a double in his last outing. Loan signing from Manchester City, Eliaquim Mangala, could make his Premier League debut for the club.

Potential Everton starting XI: Pickford; Jagielka, Keane, Mangala, Martina, Coleman; Davies, Gueye, Sigurdsson; Walcott, Rooney.

GAME PREVIEW

Henrikh Mkhitaryan Arsenal Premier League

Following the departure of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United, Wenger alluded to the unsettling uncertainty lingering in the Gunners' dressing room and he will be hoping that the January shake-up can yield positive outcomes as he looks to salvage what's left of a disastrous campaign.

As well as Sanchez, elder statesmen such as Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud have gone and they have brought in Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang, former team-mates at Borussia Dortmund who will be expected to hit the ground running in North London.

Furthermore, the news that Ozil is extending his stay at the club sends out a warning to their rivals that they are committed to restoring themselves as genuine title contenders in the coming seasons.

Nevertheless, those off-field successes did little to buoy the team on Tuesday against Swansea and they will have to put that shocking defeat out of their minds as they set about renewal, beginning against Everton at the Emirates.

There is an added intrigue attached to the match as Walcott returns on the opposing team, but the Gunners will take a psychological edge into the match having triumphed 5-2 at Goodison Park in the corresponding fixture back in October.
