The disciplinary committee of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has slapped a show cause notice against Aizawl officials and head coach Paulo Meneses after unruly scenes erupted in their last home match against Mohun Bagan.
Missiles were hurled into the ground after the supporters got upset with the referee’s decision to award a penalty to the away side.
Mohun Bagan had sent a written complaint to AIFF urging that the home matches of the North Eastern club be shifted to some other venue as their ground does not even have proper fencing and are repeatedly failing to provide security to the away teams.
After the Mohun Bagan match, Aizawl goalkeeper Avilash Paul was seen confronting the referee animatedly. He was soon joined by assistant coach Izan Martin Andres in protesting about a string of decisions which went against their team. Meneses was also seen fuming on the sidelines when Bagan was awarded the penalty.
The Portuguese coach did not mince his words to express discontent towards the referee's decisions when Goal contacted him for a response.
"When a referee comes to your home (ground) and flashes a yellow card within 30 seconds of the game, it speaks a lot. Then the referee did not reward two penalties to Aizawl FC. But on the another hand, he rewarded a penalty against us when the ball is already out!"
The coach was also not happy with the straight red card awarded to skipper Alfred Jaryan.
"The red card to Alfred (Jaryan) was also not right as Alfred didn't do anything wrong. The replays clearly show it. What more I can say? We are a small club. But I see nobody respects us. I am very sad and disappointed," an anguished Meneses stated.
Aizawl will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Chennai City FC away from home.
