The Persepolis striker was in great form in the AFC Champions League semifinals but was not able to get his side over the line....

Iran's Persepolis did not have much of a chance going into the second leg of their AFC Champions League against Al Hilal, given that they had lost the first leg by a huge margin of 4-0.

Persepolis were expected to roll over in the second leg as well but thanks to their Nigerian striker Godwin Mensha, they managed to hold Al Hilal to a 2-2 draw. By no means was it enough to overturn the deficit but it was a respectable reslt nevertheless.

Mensha was the star for the Iranians with two goals on Tuesday.

The striker from Lagos had 56 touches, made 32 successful passes and scored his brace from just five shots on goal, three of which were on target.

He gave Persepolis the lead in the 16th minute with a fine header from Vahid Amiri's cross. Later, in the 61st minute, Mensha restored Persepolis' lead on the night after he latched onto Ali Alipour’s backpass and fired into the bottom corner.

Ultimately, his efforts came in a losing cause but that does not take sheen off him which sees him named as this week's Toyota Asian Player of the Week!
