Adomah braced up for Second City derby on Sunday

The twelve-goal hero reveals his expectations for the Birmingham showdown

Aston Villa winger Albert Adomah has laid clear his goals ahead of Sunday’s Second City derby with Birmingham City in the English Championship.

The two clubs are set to renew their rivalry in a matchday 31 encounter at Villa Park.

For Adomah, the target goes beyond three points and bragging rights.

“Everyone is looking forward to the Second City Derby,” the Ghana wide-man told AV TV.

“Myself, I’m looking forward to it and hopefully I can score in that game because I still haven’t scored in that yet, so that’s my next target, but hopefully, we can win against them as a team.

“As players, we take it [build-up to the game] professionally because obviously we have to practice, work hard in the week and the strength as well.

“So, we just take it as it comes but when it’s closer to the day, we get a bit excited and obviously on the day as well, there’s more excitement, especially when you win as well.”

Currently third on the league log, Villa could topple Derby County to the second spot on Sunday, whereas three points could boost Birmingham’s early relegation fight.

“It will be a decent match, and I think sometimes when you’re playing a derby game,” the attacker added.

“It’s not even about what position you are in – it doesn’t matter whether one team is top or bottom – so we’ll just play all against all.

“People bleed, and people sweat just to win the three points, so it doesn’t matter about league position.”

Adomah has so far netted 12 goals in 26 league appearances this season.
