Commentary

Thank you for following our coverage. Until next time, goodbye!
Both sides are at home in midweek. United welcome Aston Villa to Bramall Lane, while Liverpool host Chelsea.
Liverpool close the gap on the Premier League's top four to just two points following a 2-0 win over bottom side Sheffield United. Curtis Jones broke the deadlock for the Reds early in the second half, while a Kean Bryan own-goal was enough to end their four-game losing streak and inflict a 21st defeat of the season on the Blades.
90' + 3' FULL-TIME: SHEFFIELD UNITED 0-2 LIVERPOOL
90' + 1' We are into the first of three additional minutes at the end of this game.
90' The Liverpool defence are slow to react and Burke latches onto a long ball, but Adrian is quickly out of goal to deny him.
89' Just over 60 seconds of regulation time remaining at Bramall Lane. Liverpool simply going through the motions as the clock ticks down.
86' As things stand, United will remain 15 points from safety with 12 games to play. It is still possible, of course, but it only seems like a matter of time before the Blades' relegation to the Championship is confirmed.
84' Having arrived in this contest with 20 defeats from their opening 25 games, United had taken the fewest amount of matches to reach that number in a single English top-flight season. Barring a miraculous set of events, 20 will surely become 21 here.
82' The Premier League's leading marksman with 17 goals to his name, Salah has also found the net 16 times in his last 17 away games in all competitions. That is as many as he managed in his previous 51 outings on the road.
B. Sharp
J. Fleck
80' United also make a change with Billy Sharp replacing Fleck.
N. Keïta
C. Jones
80' Jones given a well-earned rest as he is replaced by Naby Keita.
80' SALAH MISSES! Do not adjust your screens, he's human! The Premier League's leading scorer is completely unmarked at the far post as he latches onto Robertson's square ball, but he is unable to apply the finishing touch from inside the six-yard box.
78' Robertson with another chance for the Reds as he arrives late to meet Salah's cross to the far post, but his downward header loops up and into the arms of Ramsdale.
J. Milner
Thiago Alcântara
76' A change for the Reds with James Milner returning from injury. Thiago is the player to make way.
75' Liverpool search for more goals. Firmino squares the ball looking for Jones but, instead, it runs through to Robertson, who slices his effort way over the crossbar.
73' Remember, this would be Liverpool's first away win in the Premier League this season outside of London. All four of their previous such successes had come in the English capital.
70' We are into the final 20 minutes at Bramall Lane, where Liverpool are well on course for maximum points. There is still time for the Blades, but you feel it would take a monumental effort now.
68' United look to respond and Burke whips in a vicious cross from the left, but none of his team-mates are there to apply the finishing touch.
66' This would be a much-needed victory for Liverpool. The Reds have lost six of their last nine in the Premier League - as many as in their previous 100 games.
K. Bryan
Own Goal
65' OWN-GOAL!!! 2-0 LIVERPOOL! Breathing space for the Reds as Bryan puts through his own net! Playing a one-two with Mane after a lovely move by the visitors, Firmino embarks on a jinking run into the box before his shot deflects off Bryan and beyond the helpless Ramsdale.
63' From the resulting corner, the ball is only cleared as far as Norwood, whose sweetly struck volley is not too far wide of the target.
62' Vital intervention! McBurnie involved again as he looks to get in behind the defence, but Kazak gets a toe to the ball to clear before he can shoot.
60' McBurnie knows that he and United simply cannot afford to let opportunities like that go begging. The Scotland international has only scored once in the Premier League this season; a statistic that was evident in the unconvincing manner of his header.
58' WHAT A CHANCE! After lovely play by United, a cross is swung in from the right and met by the head of McBurnie. But the former Swansea City striker can only direct the ball wide of the target.
O. Burke
D. McGoldrick
56' Oliver Burke is also introduced with McGoldrick making way.
B. Osborn
P. Jagielka
56' A double-change for the hosts. The first sees Ben Osborn replace Jagielka.
54' OFFSIDE, NO GOAL! Mane neatly tucks away following a neat through ball from Robertson. However, his joy is cut short by the raising of the offside flag.
52' After receiving the required treatment, McBurnie is soon back in the thick of the action for United.
51' A concern for United as McBurnie goes down and is in need of medical attention. The last thing the hosts will want is another injury.
50' Liverpool finally break the deadlock as they look to close the gap on the Premier League's top four to just two points. Of course, there is still a long way to go, but it is hard to see them throwing this advantage away here.
C. Jones
Goal
48' JONES!!! 1-0 LIVERPOOL! The Reds lead at Bramall Lane and it had been coming. Following a patient build-up, Alexander-Arnold just about keeps the ball in play and his cross is cleared straight to Jones, who neatly slots into the far corner.
46' Liverpool get the ball rolling once more in the second half.
If Liverpool continue to knock at the door, you feel it is only a matter of time before it opens for them in the second half. United must maintain their discipline while trying to make the most of any attacking scenarios that present themselves.
Thanks mainly to the efforts of Aaron Ramsdale, the deadlock is yet to be broken at Bramall Lane. The Sheffield United goalkeeper had made a string of wonderful saves to keep Liverpool at bay so far; denying the likes of Roberto Firmino, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Georginio Wijnaldum along the way.
45' HALF-TIME: SHEFFIELD UNITED 0-0 LIVERPOOL
43' At the other end of the field, Liverpool have conceded 34 goals in the English top-flight this season. That is already one more than they let in throughout the entirety of last term.
41' Firmino has been directly involved in 11 of Liverpool's 45 Premier League goals this season. The Brazilian has scored six times, while assisting on a further five occasions.
39' ANOTHER GOOD SAVE! Wijnaldum is the player thwarted on this occasion as Ramsdale keeps out his vicious strike. The ball drops to Firmino, who looks to square for a team-mate, but Ampadu is there to clear the danger.
36' OFFSIDE, NO GOAL! Kabak breathes a huge sigh of relief! The Liverpool defender inadvertently turns the ball beyond Adrian while attempting to cut out a long pass over the top of the defence aiming for McBurnie. Thankfully for him, the striker began his run a fraction too late and was rightly ruled offside.
34' Only West Bromwich Albion possess a worse goal difference than United in the Premier League this season. Had it not been for Ramsdale's heroics, the Blades could have been edging closer to the Baggies' tally.
32' RAMSDALE TO THE RESCUE AGAIN! United almost shoot themselves in the foot after dallying on the ball for too long inside their own penalty area. It ricochets to Alexander-Arnold, who cuts inside before his powerful left-footed strike is pushed over.
30' GOOD SAVE! Salah gets his first sniff at goal after running in behind the defence. On his weaker right foot, the Egyptian looks to beat Ramsdale at his near post, but the United keeper stands firm and keeps him out.
28' A slight concern for the hosts as Ampadu takes a whack in the face following an accidental collision with Thiago in the penalty area. But after taking a moment to recover, the Wales international is back on his feet.
27' Jagielka to the rescue this time for United. The former England defender times his sliding challenge to perfection to deny Jones a clear sight on goal.
24' What an intervention! Liverpool break from a United free-kick and look to get in behind with a searching ball over the top of the defence. Thankfully for the hosts, Fleck manages to acrobatically clear in the nick of time.
22' Jones arrives late to meet a deep cross at the far post. However, Ramsdale is quickly at the feet of the Liverpool youngster to deny him.
19' The Blades have lost each of their last seven Premier League games against the reigning champions. Their last such victory came against Leeds United in April 1993.
17' United threaten at the other end and the ball breaks for McGoldrick to try his luck. Although he does not strike it cleanly, Adrian has to get down to push the striker's effort away from goal.
15' All four of the Reds' away wins in the Premier League this season have come in London. They have taken a mere four points from their seven games on the road played outside the English capital.
13' No surprise that Liverpool are carrying the greater threat inside the opening quarter of an hour. United must maintain their concentration levels and maintain their discipline to have any chance of taking anything from this game.
11' Ramsdale then has to be alert as he just about manages to claw away Robertson's dipping cross, which looked like it might just drop below the crossbar.
10' GREAT SAVE! First clear chance for Liverpool as Firmino races through on goal, but the Brazilian is brilliantly denied by the outstretched arm of Ramsdale.
9' United have kept just a single clean sheet in the Premier League this season - fewer than any other side. Their defensive credentials will certainly be tested today by the likes of Salah, Mane and Firmino.
7' At the other end, shades of Manuel Neuer as Ramsdale bursts out of goal to prevent Robertson from latching onto a long ball over the top of the United defence. The Blades number one calmly deals with the danger and clears his lines.
5' GOOD SAVE! First test for Adrian from a United free-kick. McGoldrick peels away at the far post to meet the delivery, but the striker is denied by good reflexes from the Liverpool goalkeeper.
3' Six points adrift at the bottom of the table and 15 from safety, the Blades need wins and fast. They should fancy their chances today, though, against a struggling Liverpool.
1' Referee Jonathan Moss blows his whistle and United get us underway.
The teams are making their way out onto the pitch and kick-off is upon us.
Liverpool have won the last four Premier League meetings between the sides. However, you must go back to September 1921 for the last time they recorded back-to-back away wins over the Blades in the English top-flight.
Jurgen Klopp also makes a couple of alterations from Liverpool's Merseyside derby defeat by Everton. Both are enforced with injured skipper Jordan Henderson replaced by Nathaniel Phillips and Adrian starts in goal, with Alisson missing out on compassionate grounds following the death of his father. James Milner is back among the substitutes after returning to full fitness.
Chris Wilder makes two changes to the side that began United's defeat at Fulham last weekend. Oliver Norwood replaces the injured Chris Basham in midfield, while David McGoldrick is preferred to Billy Sharp up front. Basham joins a lengthy injury list that also includes Jayden Bogle, Jack Rodwell, Jack Robinson, John Egan, Jack O'Connell and Sander Berge.
