That will do it for our coverage of this Bundesliga match between Fortuna Dusseldorf and Bayern Munich. We hope you enjoyed following along and will join us again soon!
As for what's next for these clubs, Bayern will continue their march to a potential seventh consecutive league title when they host Werder Bremen on Saturday. Fortuna, on the other hand, will hope to recover from this loss ahead of their match against Mainz next weekend.
After a long match of being outplayed, Fortuna managed to get on the scoreboard with Lukebakio's 89th-minute penalty goal, but it was too late to turn the tide of this match. In fact, it wasn't even the last goal of the game with Goretzka scoring with almost the last kick of the ball. That goal combined with Coman's brace (15', 41') and Gnabry's tap-in (55') were more than enough to ensure the points went to Bayern today. This, of course, may not have been too big of a surprise though, considering Fortuna came into this match having lost more matches and conceded more goals to Bayern than any other side, with both of those tallies obviously increasing after today's match. The win ensures Bayern will end the week in first place in the Bundesliga, while Fortuna stay 10th after the defeat.
90' + 3' FULL-TIME: Fortuna Dusseldorf 1-4 Bayern Munich
L. Goretzka
Goal
Bayern München
90' + 2' GOOAALLL!!!! Bayern seal the win and the points! Lewandowski lifted a cross into the box that dropped to the floor where Goretzka tapped it home from close range! It was a fortunate bounce for the visitors but the midfielder did well to bury the chance. Fortuna 1-4 Bayern.
90' There will be three minutes of added time.
D. Lukebakio
Penalty Goal
Fortuna Düsseldorf
89' GOOALLLLL!!!! Lukebakio makes an impact from the bench as we expected pre-match! He stepped up from the spot and slotted a left-footed effort into the bottom-left corner with Ulreich diving the other way. Is it too little to late from the hosts? We'll see! Fortuna 1-3 Bayern.
87' IT'S GIVEN! Fortuna will have a penalty kick after the ball hit Hummels in his arm which was deemed to have not been in a natural position!
86' Appeals for a handball in the Bayern penalty area from the Fortuna players and fans but the referee says play on but, after a good minute of play, it will be checked by VAR after all.
84' Zimmermann fouls Coman in the final third which will give Bayern a free-kick from a very dangerous position.
82' Massive switch over to Coman on the left who sends a cross into the danger area but it's headed away by the Fortuna defence.
T. Usami
D. Kownacki
Fortuna Düsseldorf
80' Fortuna make their final change, swapping Kownacki for Usami.
J. Rodríguez
S. Gnabry
Bayern München
80' That's Gnabry's last action as he's withdrawn for James.
80' Gnabry goes down in the box but the referee is unmoved and waves play on.
78' Kimmich beats the backline but seemed shocked to have done so, resulting in a very half-hearted pass in the direction of Lewandowski that was easily cut out.
76' Bayern playing almost exclusively in the final third now as Fortuna man the defences. Looks far more likely that the visitors will score their fourth rather than the hosts recording their first.
73' Thiago will have to be careful after committing another foul, this one on Stoger in the midfield.
L. Goretzka
T. Müller
Bayern München
70' Bayern make a substitution of their own as Goretzka comes into the midfield with Muller departing.
D. Lukebakio
R. Hennings
Fortuna Düsseldorf
68' Lukebakio does make his entrance as expected with Hennings the player sacrificed. Can the former get the hosts back into this match?
A. Morales
M. Sobottka
Fortuna Düsseldorf
67' Defensive midfielder Sobottka is replaced by Alfredo Morales for Fortuna.
63' Another shot! This time, Lewandowski headed the ball high but in the centre of the goal which made the save relatively simple for Rensing. That's five now for the Fortuna net-minder.
62' Hennings tries a shot of his own from the left side of the box that's blocked, preventing Ulreich from having to take his first action since entering play.
59' Thiago attempts a shot from the centre of the box but it's saved low by Rensing! The goalkeeper has done very well today, despite the three conceded goals.
57' Another foul from the hosts as Kownacki brings down Kimmich who grabs at his ankle, but seems able to continue.
T. Müller
Assist
Bayern München
55' Muller rose above his marker in the box and, from the corner, flicked a header in the path of Gnabry who put it over the line.
S. Gnabry
Goal
Bayern München
55' GOOOALLLL!!!! Bayern score their third! Thiago whipped in a cross that Mueller flicked on to the back-post where Gnabry tapped it in from incredibly close range! Three goals from Bayern wingers today as they continue to transition away from the Ribery and Robben era. Fortuna 0-3 Bayern.
S. Ulreich
M. Neuer
Bayern München
53' Ulreich replaces Neuer in goal for Bayern Munich.
51' Neuer is limping on the pitch. It seems he tweaked something in his ankle and it looks like he will indeed be replaced imminently.
49' Double save from Rensing! Kimmich sends in a cross that the 'keeper parried away right into the path of Thiago who also couldn't beat the Fortuna man!
47' Lewandowski goes down in the box but is deemed to have handled the ball before the contact.
46' The referee's whistle sounds again and this match is back underway!
In the second half, you have to assume that Fortuna will come out with more attacking impetus as they chase the match and, from their perspective, hopefully, a result. In that vein, it's likely that we'll see Lukebakio off the bench sooner rather than later. Of course, as Fortuna open up, Bayern could well take advantage of the open spaces in midfield and defence and turn this into an even less flattering scoreline for the hosts.
Fortuna have had a couple of half-chances, but this match has been dominated in almost every way by Bayern. The title-holders have had more shots, shots on target, crosses, duels won, possession and, of course, goals. The first was a cross-cum-shot from Coman in the 15th-minute that Muller somehow failed to get a touch on, but wound up in the back of the net nonetheless. Coman then scored just before the half with a well-worked attack that ended with a great cut-back from Kimmich that the former hit into the top-left corner. Can Fortuna get themselves back into the match, or will Bayern cruise to an all-important win in the title race?
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: Fortuna Dusseldorf 0-2 Bayern Munich
45' There will be just one minute of added time.
43' Bayern have now scored two or more goals in six consecutive matches against Fortuna.
J. Kimmich
Assist
Bayern München
41' Kimmich picks up his 11th Bundesliga assist of the campaign having opted to cut the ball back to Coman who had found a pocket of space rather than trying to whip a cross into a marked Lewandowski.
K. Coman
Goal
Bayern München
41' GOOOALLLLL! Bayern get a second just before the end of the half! It was very well worked with Kimmich sprinting down the touchline and then cutting the ball back to Coman who was stood on the spot and hit the ball into the top-left corner to double the visitors' lead! Fortuna 0-2 Bayern.
39' Coman sits down his defender with a bit of skill before unleashing a curling right-footed shot that forces a diving save by Rensing. The rebound comes to the middle of the box but no one was there to capitalise on it.
38' Zimmermann launches up the left wing and tries an infield pass that's blocked and was recovered by Bayern who re-establish possession.
35' A reverse ball is played to Muller who was sprinting into the box, but the 'keeper comes off his line early and smothers the ball.
32' Stoger brings down Martinez on the left, making it five fouls now on the hosts.
30' Fortuna have had a couple of attacks in the last few minutes, but it's Bayern that have been dominating play having held the ball for 64 per cent of the match thus far.
28' Raman fouls Alaba, and Bayern will have a free-kick from the left wing.
27' Lewandowski tries to nod header from the centre of the penalty area but misses to the right of goal and never really troubled Rensing.
25' Fortuna push forward with pace through Raman who played Kownacki into the box and the latter fires... over the crossbar! It was a solid counter-attack but the hosts aren't able to bring things level.
23' Lewandowski attempts a shot from a free-kick just outside the box and his curling effort just missed the top-left corner!
K. Ayhan
Yellow Card
Fortuna Düsseldorf
20' Ayhan shoulder barges Gnabry, and the Fortuna man is shown yellow for his troubles.
19' Martinez attempted a shot from outside the box that was summarily blocked before it could cause Rensing any issues.
16' Stoger tries to play Kowanacki in behind the Bayern defence, but the latter had made his run just a little too early and was called offside.
S. Gnabry
Assist
Bayern München
15' Gnabry made a surging run through midfield before playing Coman down the left wing, and the latter's attempted cross somehow avoided both the foot of Muller and the hands of Rensing, opening the scoring for the visitors.
K. Coman
Goal
Bayern München
15' GOOALLLL!!!! It looked like Mueller had tapped in a fantastic cross in from Coman... but on second viewing, it looks the German missed it entirely! Coman had been played into space on the left by Gnabry, and whipped in a fiery right-footed cross that found it's way into the back of the net! Fortuna 0-1 Bayern.
11' Fortuna have their first meaningful attack as Raman pushes forward and unleashes a curling left-footed strike that Neuer got down to and trapped, ending the chance.
10' Coman drags down Stoger in his own half and it'll be a free-kick to the hosts.
8' Barkok attempts a chipped pass out to Zimmermann on the right flank, but it's overhit and rolls out for a throw-in.
7' CHANCE! Gnabry was played in behind the back line and played a square ball right in front of goal that Coman got a touch to... but his attempt hits the post and bounces away from any and all Bayern players!
5' Thiago picks up the first foul of the match as he brings down Raman in the midfield.
4' Kimmich plays a ball down the line to Gnabry who stretches his legs, but he's dispossessed and Fortuna push forward themselves.
3' For those interested, Fortuna don all red while Bayern wear a full grey strip.
1' Referee Felix Zwayer blows his whistle and this match is underway!
The players are walking out of the tunnel. Not long to go until kick-off now!
No changes from Niko Kovac after his sides massive 5-0 win in the Revierderby last weekend. Obviously, the player at the top of the formation, and the front of people’s minds, is Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker is having another sensational season with 21 goals, 43 shots on target, and 237 touches in the box, all of which lead the league. In support, Kimmich is a constant creative force from his right back spot, having provided 10 Bundesliga assists thus far.
Bayern Munich substitutes: James Rodriguez, Alphonso Davies, Leon Goretzka, Renato Sanches, Sven Ulreich, Lars Lukas Mai, Jerome Boateng.
Bayern Munich (4-2-3-1): Manuel Neuer; Joshua Kimmich, Mats Hummels, Niklas Sule, David Alaba; Thiago Alcantara, Javi Martínez; Serge Gnabry, Thomas Muller, Kingsley Coman; Robert Lewandowski.
Four changes for Fortuna after their 2-1 victory against Hertha Berlin last time out. Ayhan, Sobottka, Barkok, and Kownacki all come into the starting with Giesselmann, Bodzek, Fink, dropping out of the team entirely while Lukebakio makes the bench. The latter could well make an impact considering he leads the club in shots on target, but will have to do so with limited minutes. Until then, Raman will likely prove the biggest attacking threat for the hosts, having already scored a club-high nine Bundesliga goals this season.
Fortuna Dusseldorf substitutes: Takashi Usami, Jannick Theissen, Alfredo Morales, Marvin Ducksch, Robin Bormuth, Kenan Karaman, Dodi Lukebakio.
Fortuna Dusseldorf (4-1-4-1): Michael Rensing; Matthias Zimmermann, Kaan Ayhan, Marcin Kaminski, Andre Hoffmann; Marcel Sobottka; Benito Raman, Kevin Stoger, Aymen Barkok, Dawid Kownacki; Rouwen Hennings.
Now, let's take a look at the players who will be involved in today's match.
For Bayern, they are on an incredible run having won 14 of their last 18 matches which, including the 5-0 win against Dortmund last week, has seen the former go top of the table on 64 points.
Today's match will be difficult for the hosts considering they have lost more matches (27) and conceded more goals (109) against Bayern Munich than any other side.
Fortuna will be very pleased with how this season has gone considering they are functionally safe. No side has been relegated after securing 37 points or more through 28 Bundesliga matches.
Hello, and welcome to our live coverage of this Bundesliga match between Fortuna Dusseldorf and Bayern Munich!
