Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Real Madrid have control of the Spanish Super Cup after the first leg, despite the dismissal of Cristiano Ronaldo. An own goal from Gerard Pique put the visitors ahead, although Lione Messi equalised from the penalty spot. However, the response was emphatic from Real as the Portuguese scored a brilliant goal with his right foot, only to be booked for his celebration and then received his marching orders for a second bookable offence for simulation. Despite their numerical disadvantage, Zinedine Zidane's men notched their third goal as Marco Asensio drilled in a third goal, handing his side a two-goal advantage in the tie. Ernesto Valverde's team have a huge challenge ahead of them to overturn the deficit in the Bernabeu on Wednesday.
FULL-TIME: BARCELONA 1-3 REAL MADRID
90' + 3'
Barcelona press for a second goal, but are unable to unlock the Real defence as the referee blows the full-time whistle.
Vazquez sends Asensio into the left channel and the midfielder does the rest with a fine finish.
GOALLLLLL!!!! ASENSIO SCORES A SCREAMER! Real have a third goal this evening and could take a two-goal advantage to the Bernabeu. Asensio finds the net with an eerily similar strike to Ronaldo, although he hits the ball with his left foot with power into the top corner. Pique was once again trailing and Ter Stegen could do nothing to stop the strike from hitting the back of the net. A super finish.
There will be three minutes of added time.
Suarez tries to feed Messi on the edge of the box, but his pass is intercepted with ease by Carvajal killing the momentum of the attack.
Real are doing their best to take the pace out of their game to ensure that they take this 2-1 lead to the Bernabeu.
OVER! Suarez collects inside the box and he has the opportunity to shoot, but he cannot sort his feet out in time and fires over the bar. It has not been his night.
Tensions are really beginning to boil over after Ronaldo's dismissal and it would not be a surprise to see more cards dished out.
Alcacer comes on for the final throes to replace Rakitic.
RED CARD! STUNNING! Two minutes after handing his side the lead Ronaldo has been sent off for a second bookable offence. The Portuguese battles for the ball in the box with Umtiti and goes down. He wants a penalty and initially it looks as though he has won his appeal. However, the referee brandishes the yellow card at him for simulation and the red quickly follows, sending him on his way. He's furious with the decision, although had vanity not got the better of him after his goal, Ronaldo would still be on the pitch.
Vazquez replaces Bale for the visitors.
Isco collects an assist for sending Ronaldo on his way into the left inside channel before applying the finish.
Ronaldo is booked for taking his shirt off and flexing to the Camp Nou crowd.
GOALLLLL!!!!!! RONALDO SCORES A STUNNER! Real retake the lead through the Portuguese with a super strike into the top corner. The visitors hit Barca on the break and Isco released Ronaldo into the channel. He squared up Pique before shifting the ball on to his right foot before smashing his strike beyond the reach of Ter Stegen into the net. Outstanding.
The game is open now as Messi finds space through the middle and he sends the ball wide to Suarez to strike. He goes for the bottom corner, but his effort trickles past the post. However, the goal would not have counted as he was offside anyway.
GOALLLL!!!! MESSI OPENS HIS ACCOUNT FOR THE NEW SEASON! The Argentine is cool from the spot as he levels the scores. Messi fires the ball into the net, sending Navas the wrong way.
Yellow card Marcelo Vieira da Silva Júnior
PENALTY TO BARCELONA! Suarez goes down under Navas' challenge and the referee points to the spot. Real are not happy with the decision, but it's a fair one by the letter of the law.
SAVES! Messi goes for the strike on the edge of the box, but Navas does extremely well to parry his effort. Denis Suarez reacts to the rebound, but the keeper is on his feet and makes the follow-up stop. Outstanding from the Real man.
WHAT A MISS! Real get themselves in a mess at the back as Denis Suarez is allowed to bring a looping ball under control. He doesn't get the shot away, but the ball falls kindly for Busquets to strike after Navas slips. However, the midfielder hammers his effort over the bar from 12 yards - a staggering miss from the veteran.
Suarez squares the ball into the path of Denis Suarez on the left. The Uruguayan wants the return pass, but the midfielder goes for goal, only to strike a tame effort at Navas. It would be an understatement to say that the forward was not happy with his team-mate.
Marcelo finds space to race on to Ronaldo's pass into the left inside channel. The Brazilian creates half a yard and goes for the strike at goal, but he smashes his effort straight into the chest of Ter Stegen.
WIDE! Ronaldo goes for the spectacular at the back post as he attempts a bicycle kick off his feet after latching on to Bale's cross at the back post, but he slices the effort wide of the post.
Messi runs into the left channel and finds space to turn to fire the ball across the face of goal, but Navas is able to make the stop.
Sergi Roberto replaces Iniesta for the home side.
Asensio replaces Kovacic as the midfielder has an injury concern.
Barce are beginning to put the visitors under serious pressure at the back. For now Real are holding firm and have limited the home side to strikes from the perimeter.
CLOSE! Suarez has all sorts of space down the left flank and like Marcelo hammers the ball back across the face of goal. It hits Varane and loops awkwardly into the air, but fortunately for the Frenchman goes wide of the post.
Vidal raids down the right flank this time and sends a low cross into the box, but there are enough blue shirts behind the ball to clear the danger.
OFFSIDE! Poor from Suarez as he gives up on a forward run as Vidal attempts to play him through. He is caught fractionally offside, had he bent his run slightly he would have been through on goal.
BLOCK! Ronaldo runs at Pique in the left inside channel and goes for the strike at goal, but the defender holds firm to divert the ball behind for a Real corner.
SAVE! Denis Suarez swings a corner in from the right flank and Suarez attacks the ball, but Navas is alert to the danger and tips his effort over the bar.
Deulofeu makes way and is replaced by Denis Suarez.
Ronaldo replaces Benzema for Los Blancos.
Busquets pulls back Isco and goes into the book.
Barca win a free-kick and an opportunity to hit back, but Messi's free-kick strikes the wall and the visitors are able to come away with possession.
OFF THE LINE! Real come within inches of a second goal, but Alba clears Carvajal's shot off the line. Benzema caused havoc down the left inside channel, beating Pique all ends up before firing across the face of goal. Carvajal gathered at the back post and fired towards the net, but he was denied by his compatriot on the slide.
CHANCE! Rakitic sends Vidal down the right flank and his low cross beats everyone in the box. Deulofeu gathers at the back post, but he can only curl his effort wide of the post. That was a huge opportunity for the Spaniard to level the scores.
Real press down the left through Isco once again and Barca can only clear behind for a corner. Zidane's men are in the ascendancy.
GOALLLLl!!!!! REAL TAKE THE LEAD! A nightmare fro Pique as he sends the ball into his own net. Barca failed to properly clear their lines from Kroos' corner. Marcelo was allowed to raid down the left flank to fire a low cross towards the near post and the defender could only steer the ball past Ter Stegen into the net.
Carvajal drives down the right flank and wins a corner for the visitors off the legs of the backtracking Deulofeu.
Messi goes on a surge through the middle of the Real defence, but between them Casemiro, Varane and Ramos do enough to stop his run.
Isco is flagged offside in the first action of the second half as he attempted to latch on to Marcelo's throughball.
We're back underway at the Camp Nou.
The players are back out on the pitch, so we should be underway again shortly.
It's goalless at the break at the Camp Nou as neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid have been able to find a breakthrough. Real have come closest as Gareth Bale's effort was tipped over the bar by Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Ernesto Valverde's men have had brief moments, but he will want to see a dramatic improvement in the second half.
HALF-TIME: BARCELONA 0-0 REAL MADRID
The referee brings the first half to an end.
OVER! Bale attacks Carvajal's cross to the back post, leaping over Vidal. However, the Welshman can only send his headed effort well over the bar.
Barca move the ball with pace to open up space down the left, but Alba fails to beat the first man with his cross, allowing Carvajal to clear the danger.
Real clear their lines from Messi's cross into the box from the free-kick. Barcelona are still waiting for their first clear-cut opening of the half.
Carvajal lunges in on Iniesta and goes into the book.
Bale brings down Busquets and goes into the book. The yellow cards are beginning to mount for both teams.
Messi goes into the book for a loose challenge on Casemiro. Revenge on the mind of the Argentine.
Excitement at both ends of the pitch as Barca clear the Real corner and attack on the counter, but the visitors manage to stifle the threat.
SAVE! Isco weaves his way down the left flank and he sends a low cross into the box. Bale meets the ball first time to strike on his left foot, but Ter Stegen reacts well to turn it over the bar.
Suarez and Iniesta attempt to combine through the middle, but the Uruguayan fails to get enough on his flicked pass through to his team-mate. Suarez hasn't been on his game so far, but he can come to life at any moment.
Iniesta sends Alba down the left inside channel and he hits low cross towards the near post, but Navas and Kovacic do enough to steer the ball behind away from Messi.
Ramos has to be alert at the other end of the pitch as Suarez puts him under duress, but the Real skipper offloads in time to Navas to quell the danger.
Umtiti is decisive at the back once again as he fends off Benzema in the box before playing the ball back to Ter Stegen to clear. A strong start from the Frenchman.
Marcelo gets out of a tight corner with Vidal putting pressure on the Brazilian. The full-back goes down after releasing the ball and the referee awards Real a free-kick, much to the dismay of the home supporters.
Varane's athleticism comes to his rescue as Alba's long ball over the top has him in trouble, with Suarez lurking. However, the Frenchman sticks out a leg and is able to bring it under control before clearing.
Scratch that. Pique is booked for deliberate handball. That was needless.
HANDBALL! Iniesta swings the corner in from the left flank and Pique meets the ball with his hand, sending it wide of the post. He's fortunate to escape a booking there as he made no attempt to head the ball.
Messi releases Deulofeu down the left with a brilliant throughball, but the Spaniard cannot in turn find Suarez in the left channel. He keeps the attack alive and Barca eventually win a corner as Alba's cross is deflected wide.
CLOSE! Messi goes for goal from the free-kick. He gets plenty of power on his strike, but it lacks the dip to sail under the bar, drifting narrowly over Navas' goal.
Messi goes to the ground again this time under the challenge of Bale. The referee awards Barca a free-kick 25 yards from goal, although there was less in this tackle than that of Casemiro's a few minutes ago.
A few challenges are just starting to fly in, with Benzema guilty of nudging Vidal away from the ball. Hopefully it raises the intensity of the contest.
Casemiro is booked for his challenge on Messi. It wasn't the best of tackles.
Casemiro goes in hard on Messi and sweeps his legs away from the Argentine. It causes the first fracas of the game, although the referee makes his intentions clear from the off to simmer the tension.
WIDE! Kroos sends the ball out wide to Isco who takes on Vidal one-on-one. The Spaniard displays quick feet to cut inside, but the Barca defender does enough to force the winger to fire his shot into the side-netting.
Vidal makes good headway down the right flank and he cuts the ball back into the box, but there's no red and blue shirt there to capitalise on his low cross.
Umtiti has to be alert at the back as a long ball forward from Real bounces awkwardly in the box, but he does enough to outmuscle Bale and clear the danger.
Messi slides the ball into the left flank for Deulofeu to chase, but once again the Spaniard is caught offside, moving a fraction too early.
Barcelona are starting to build a rhythm now to counteract Real's high press that had initially forced them back in their own half.
Messi has his first run of the game and he feeds Suarez on the edge of the box, but the forward goes for the step over rather than a shot, allowing Real to clear.
SHOT! A ball over the top of the Real defence finds Suarez in the left inside channel. The Uruguayan controls before shooting with his left foot, but Navas makes a comfortable stop.
Iniesta loses possession in his own half and Isco picks out Bale in a threatening position. However, Umtiti wins the ball with a strong challenge, while Alba mops up the danger to deny the Welshman.
The visitors clear their lines from the corner and are able to bring the ball to safety. A tame opening from the Catalan club thus far.
Alba goes on a surge down the left flank, but his progress is stopped by a fine sliding challenge from Carvajal. The home side still win a corner to pose their first threat of the game.
Real have made a bright start to the game and are attempting to assert themselves in the Barcelona half with their passing game.
Deulofeu's first involvement in the contest is to be caught offside in an advanced position. He has big shoes to fill this evening.
Kovacic seizes on the loose ball 35 yards from goal and goes for an audacious lob over Ter Stegen, but the keeper claims his strike with relative ease.
We're underway at the Camp Nou.
The players are making their way out on to the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
Barcelona won the last contest between the two sides in LaLiga earlier this year at the Bernabeu. The match was a thriller as Real battled back twice to level, despite the dismissal of Sergio Ramos, only for Messi to snatch the three points at the death.
The two sides last met in the Super Cup in 2012 when Real emerged the victors even though Barca won the first leg 3-2. Jose Mourinho's side battled back at the Bernabeu with strikes from Gonzalo Higuain and Ronaldo to win the contest on away goals as Messi's solitary strike was not enough.
Valverde will be desperate to make a strong impression in his first El Clasico. Barcelona are holders of the Super Cup and the new man in the dugout will not want to hand the trophy over toe their rivals in his first two matches in charge.
Zidane has made just one change from his side that beat United during the week. Luka Modric drops out of the side and is replaced by Mateo Kovacic, while Cristiano Ronaldo remains on the bench as Isco, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale continue as the strike force.
New Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde names Gerard Deulofeu as the man to replace Neymar as part of a three-man attack. Samuel Umtiti gets the nod ahead of Javier Mascherano in the heart of the defence, while Aleix Vidal returns to the fold from injury at right-back.

The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
Barcelona begin the campaign to re-establish themselves as the top side in Spain without Neymar. The Brazilian has left for pastures new in a world-record deal to join Paris Saint-Germain, leaving Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez to mount the charge for success.
Real have already added to their trophy cabinet this season by defeating Manchester United in the UEFA Super Cup. Goals from Casemiro and Isco delivered the victory during the week, kicking off the term in style for Los Blancos.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Spanish Super Cup clash between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the Camp Nou.
