#5 Kevin De Bruyne was Manchester City’s creative hub

Against a dogged and resilient West Ham United side that came to frustrate the Premier League title challengers at the Etihad Stadium, the Belgian playmaker created several opportunities on a tough night for the hosts. While the attacking midfielder didn’t register an assist against the Hammers, his influence on proceedings was noteworthy and unsurprisingly ended the game as the most impressive player in sky blue.

#4 Bernardo Silva was amazing off the bench

Following 120 minutes of action in City’s Carabao Cup final win against Chelsea on Sunday, Pep Guardiola made the decision to give the Portuguese star a breather on Wednesday night. However, with the game deadlocked and the Citizens struggling to break Mauricio Pellegrini’s side, the playmaker was introduced just before the hour and changed the complexion of the match. Silva created several goalscoring opportunities during the last half-hour and was a constant threat whenever he cut inside onto his strong left foot. It was no surprise he won the penalty which Sergio Aguero dispatched with ease to seal a 1-0 win.

#2 Sergio Aguero held his nerve to secure the points

While it wasn't the best of games for the prolific frontman, he expertly dispatched his spot-kick on the hour to put the Citizens in front. Having narrowly scored in Sunday’s final, it was nice to see the Argentine forward not shy away from responsibility against the side from London. Aguero’s strike against the East London side increased his tally in the league to 18 this season, and he has now scored in his last four starts at the Etihad.

#1 Stand-in Danilo proved how useful he can be

The Brazilian replaced the rested Kyle Walker and he flourished in the Englishman's absence. The right-back wasn't only spot-on with every attempted tackle, but equally came out on top in a plethora of personal battles. It was therefore no surprise the full-of-confidence full-back almost found the back of the net on one of the occasions he went forward to join the attack. For a player who doesn't feature week in week out, Wednesday's performance was highly impressive.
