Rivers Angels coach Edwin Okon is delighted after his side won the Women's Federation Cup title against Ibom Angels at the Rwang Pam Stadium on Wednesday.

Having played out a 1-1 draw in regulation time, the Jewel of Rivers eventually defeated Whyte Ogbonda's ladies 3-0 win on penalties to clinch a record seventh title.

Despite their poor display, the Jewel of Rivers gaffer, who was named the best coach of the competition, insists securing the diadem was the most important.

"I'm very happy about our victory. I'm proud of the girls," Okon told Goal.

"Though we had to rely on penalties to win, for me winning was what matters to us. It was a tough match for and they [Ibom Angels] gave us a good fight.

"We learned a lot of lessons from our outing at the Super Four tournament and had the determination to win the Federation Cup.

"We knew it won't be easy beating Ibom because we played them twice during the league season and they really tried to prove a point against us.

"In the match, we missed many chances to score and win the match to avoid allowing the match gets to penalties but that did not happen."

"In football, one must certainly make mistakes and we didn't waste any opportunity to convert our chance in the penalty shoot-out. I'm glad we came out victorious," he continued

"We have learned some good lessons this season and I know we have a lot of work to do if we must do better next season.

"I hope to work hard in rebuilding the team and get quality players that can help us compete in the league.".
