Tottenham playmaker Eriksen challenged to 'achieve a better level' by Pochettino

The Spurs manager considers the Dane to be 'one of the best creative players in the Premier League' but believes there is even more to come from him

Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino believes Christian Eriksen is capable of taking his game to “a different level” despite already being “one of the best creative players in the Premier League”.

The Denmark international is currently taking in his fourth season at White Hart Lane, having been snapped up from Ajax in the summer of 2013.

Spurs only seeking 'special player'

He was a much sought-after talent when Spurs won the race for his signature, and he has matured into one of the most consistent playmakers in English football.

There is still plenty of room for improvement within his game as well, as Eriksen remains only 24 years of age despite having made his senior debut some seven years ago.

Pochettino is challenging the key creative cog in his Spurs set-up to embrace the potential at his disposal, with it important that all of the regular starters in his squad continue to push themselves towards a world-class standard.

He said: “I think the whole team has improved in the last two years but we still need to improve a lot.

“I think he is one of the best creative players in the Premier League but that doesn't mean he cannot achieve a better level.

“We are here to push him to improve every day and achieve a different level.”

Kane: It would be stupid to leave

Eriksen has made 28 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham this season, netting seven times.

He has also provided eight assists in Premier League outings, with only Manchester City winger Kevin De Bruyne able to better that return.
