Tigres vs. Monterrey: TV channel, live stream, team news, kickoff time, & match preview

Azael Rodriguez
The Monterrey rivals clash for the first time since Tigres topped Rayados to win the title in December's Apertura final

Both Tigres and Monterrey are qualified for the postseason heading into the final week of the season.

With a Clasico Regio taking place though, and the potential that these two teams will face off against each other in the Liguilla once again, there's still plenty on the line.

Rayados will be hoping to ease a bit of the pain of last year's final loss to Tigres by beating them in their first meeting since.

Tigres, on the other hand, need to gather a bit of momentum heading into the playoffs as they look to defend their crown.

Game Preview

Every Clasico Regiomontano, the match pitting Tigres and Rayados for supremacy of the northern city of Monterrey, is a special occasion.

Saturday's match feels a bit underwhelming, though, after the excitement of the previous two contests between the teams which decided the Apertura title.

Memories of those games still linger, and Rayados manager Antonio Mohamed and his side will be desperate to get a victory this time, especially with the potential the teams meet in the playoffs once again just days later. If the teams share at point at El Volcan and America tops Santos Laguna, there will be two more Clasicos in the quarterfinals. Other results could see the teams facing off in later rounds.

Mohamed has changed things up this season, tweaking his formation from the 4-3-3 he'd played in last season's run to the final to what usually works as a 4-2-3-1 with Alfonso Gonzalez creating in the midfield.

Rogelio Funes Mori's injury has required him to make alterations once again, but the attack is deep with Aviles Hurtado and Jonathan Urretaviscaya available.

Tigres manager Tuca Ferretti also has made changes to his normal squad, one forced with right back Luis "Chaka" Rodriguez injured, the other looking to take care of forward Andre-Pierre Gignac. The Frenchman has split time with Enner Valencia and Eduardo Vargas up top with Jurgen Damm also seeing sporadic time on the wings with Ismael Sosa and Javier Aquino locking down the outside positions.

They have just one win in their last four, so keeping municipal supremacy will be a top priority this weekend with the expectation of seeing each other again soon.
