Thika United stamped one foot on the Kenyan Premier League after beating Ushuru 2-1 in the first leg of the playoff on Thursday.

Saad Musa and Onwudi Chibueze gave Nichola Muyoti a goal advantage after the mild hawker escaped the tax man wrath in a tensed match at Thika-Sub County Stadium.

Nigerian Chibueze saved Thika United the blushes when he scored the match-winning goal after Hassan Mohammed had canceled out Musa’s opener for the host.

Musa gave Thika United the lead in the 38-minute but Ushuru canceled it out late in the second half when Mohammed hit home an equalizer in the 83-minute.

With the scores tied one-all and clock running down on the host, Nigerian import, Chibueze drove home the winner in the 89-minute.

Ushuru will host Thika United in the return leg on Sunday at Narok Stadium.

Winner of the two-legged playoff will book a place to the Kenyan Premier League next season.
