After being sent packing from the 2018 Fifa World Cup, Shehu Abdullahi has conveyed his feelings of optimism about Nigeria’s future.

The three-time Africa champions suffered losses at the hands of Croatia and Argentina to finish third in Group D, despite securing a win over Iceland in their second group game.

Gernot Rohr’s men failed to reach the knockout stages, which would have been their fourth time of achieving such feat at the finals.

After seeing his side crash out, the 25-year-old who only played against Croatia in the opening game has put out his positive feelings from their underwhelming outing.

"I’m honoured to play for my country at the World Cup. We are disappointed and we apologise for the early exit. We need your love and support at the moment," Abdullahi tweeted.

"I’m optimistic this group will make you happy in the AFCON qualifiers."

Nigeria continue their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign on September 7 as they clash with Seychelles before they host Libya on October 10.
