PSL history-maker Jayiya eager to make up for lost time at Cape Town City

Goal spoke to the Soweto-born winger, who scored a hat-trick on Monday to take the Citizens back to the top of the PSL standings

Cape Town City midfielder Bhongolwethu Jayiya insists that he is happy to continue playing as a winger after his impressive performance against Chippa United as they won 4-1 at the Athlone Stadium.

“I don’t think playing as a striker will help me to score more goals. I’m happy as a winger because I’m still able to score goals from there so I’m fine as a winger,” Jayiya told Goal .

The 27-year-old winger made history against the Chilli Boys when he scored the PSL’s fastest ever hat-trick within 10 minutes.

Jayiya is eager to make up for lost time now that he's fully recovered from an injury that saw him miss a few City matches. He has made 21 appearances in all competitions - netting six goals in the process.

“Yes, I am looking forward to playing more matches now that I’m back because I want to contribute to the success of this team," he said.

“So, I’m looking to make the most of every opportunity that I get right now,” Jayiya concluded.

The last time he played a full 90 minutes prior to Monday, was in October last year when they went down 2-1 to Baroka in a PSL clash at home.
