Just after the July-August transfer window deadline, Orlando Pirates have announced the signing of Brazilian defender Caio Marcelo Pinheiro Da Silva who has been training with the club for about a month.
The Soweto giants confirmed the signinng of the Brazilian defender on Monday morning as he looks to launch his career in the Premier Soccer League.
Although, Pirates were expected to announce Marcelo's signing on Friday during the transfer window deadline day, it is reported that the side were still deciding on their foreign quota.
However, the Soweto giants eventually made the announcement as they brought in the 20-year-old centre back from Nova Igaucu FC.
"Orlando Pirates Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Caio Marcelo from Nova Iguaçu Football Club," said Pirates in a statement.
"The signing of the Brazilian defender was concluded on the final day of the transfer window on Friday last week,” added the club.
“Caio who was spotted in Pirates’ recent Project X trip in Brazil, will join his new team mates this week after impressing technical staff during the pre-season break,” concluded the statement.
Marcelo was invited by coach Milutin Sredojevic for assessment and trained under the watchful eye of the Bucs' technical team where he impressed.
Meanwhile, the defender will compete against the likes of Gladwin Shitolo, Marshall Munetsi and Happy Jele for a spot in the heart of the defence.
Having conceded four goals in five PSL matches, the defender's arrival is set to ease Sredojevic's concerns at the back.
