Goal understands that the Township Rollers boss was not in Johannesburg to conclude talks with the Soweto giants, but to sort out his passport

With Kaizer Chiefs yet to find their preferred coach, speculation was that Township Rollers coach Nikola Kavazovic was on his way to Naturena this week.

However, Goal has established that the coach actually went to the Serbian Embassy in Pretoria to sort out his passports for him and his wife.

According to a source close to the developments in Botswana, the Popa manager was on an official trip to Johannesburg, and not to conclude talks with Amakhosi.

Just in the past few days, the Botswana Premier League winner posted a photo on Twitter with Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane after their friendly last weekend in Gaborone.

The caption of the picture suggested to many that he could be unveiled as Chiefs coach especially before the clash against the Brazilians in the inaugural Shell Helix Cup next weekend at the FNB Stadium.

“Still hope to see you on the opposite bench on 21st,” said the coach in the picture last weekend.

However, a source in Gaborone has stated to Goal that Kavazovic was not going to join the Soweto giants despite the fact that he missed training because of his trip to Gauteng.

The Serbian boss has done a great job with Popa as he became the first coach to lead a BPL side to the Caf Champions League group stages this year.

“Two weeks ago, just as we left for Rustenburg for the first match practice with Sundowns, Nikola's wife was robbed in Gaborone and passports were also taken,” the source told Goal on Friday.

“This week there was a scheduled trip to the Serbian embassy in Pretoria to work on passport renewal. That's officially why he was not at training,” added the informant.

“He was in Gauteng early this week, but yesterday he was back and he led the team in training today (Friday). He is leaving with the team for Egypt on Sunday, for the Al Ahly game next Tuesday,” explained the source.

Meanwhile, Chiefs will participate at the Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup on Saturday in a pre-season tournament featuring Free State Stars, Chippa United and Buya Msuthu.

Interim coaches Patrick Mabedi and Arthur Zwane will be expected to guide the side at James Motlatsi Stadium as well as against the Brazilians next weekend.
