Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa has defended Harambee Stars coach Sebastien Migne’s selection.

Migne named a provisional squad of 24 players, including two new faces - Christopher Mbamba and David Sesay - who are based in Sweden and England respectively.

But Migne left out some big names, including Zambian-based striker Jesse Were, who is Zesco United’s all-time record scorer, Gor Mahia duo of Dennis Oliech and George Odhiambo and Whyvonne Isuza of AFC Leopards.

But Mwendwa defended the Frenchman’s decision, saying the tactician picked only the best players from a big pool. "He (Migne) picked the squad among the best (players) we have around the country and abroad."

Harambee Stars are expected to play Ghana in the final round of Afcon qualifiers later in the month.
