McCarthy: I want to win everything with Cape Town City

The Citizens new coach has hinted that while he intends to compete on all fronts next season, he may need to bolster his squad

Cape Town City recently announced Bafana Bafana legend Benedict McCarthy as their new coach following the departure of Eric Tinkler to SuperSport United.

The new City coach is expected to have his work cut out ahead of the new campaign, with the Citizens having to contend with the added pressures of playing on the continent.

However, McCarthy remains unfazed and has stated that his team will be ready to compete on all fronts, but he will need to bolster their squad if they are to do well in the 2017 Caf Confederation Cup.

“It is question of how big your squad is and I have stretched my question to the chairman of how important is it to play in the CAF Confederation Cup, is that where the club sees themselves as far as they can or maybe even going all the way or is it just that if it becomes less important than winning the league and doing well in domestic competitions?” McCarthy told the media.

“Me? I want to win everything if I can, I want to be able to be one of those guys that say that I’ve got a low percentage of losses as a manager and a win percentage of 100 percent I hope.

“So for me, every competition is as important as (the) other and I want to win everything and if we (are) capable enough to go into Africa and play to the best of our abilities and to the abilities that I know they can play, win there come back and we put the same focus on the league as well,” he concluded.
