Ahead of Cardiff's visit, the German tactician talked up the chances of the Cameroon international, who is in 'outstanding shape'

'Joel Matip will play in 97 percent of Premier League and Bundesliga clubs' according to Jurgen Klopp, who assures the defender, as well as other squad members, of 'their moment' in Liverpool's starting lineup.

The former Schalke 04 player had battled with fitness issues but, last month, was handed his first start of the season in the Reds' Premier League game against Southampton.

Matip helped the Merseysiders to a comfortable 3-0 victory, scoring one of the goals .

Four days later, he maintained the starting spot in their League Cup loss to Chelsea but has yet to see action since then, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren all above him in the pecking order.

As with the likes of Divock Origi, Dominic Solanke, Nathaniel Clyne, Alberto Moreno, Klopp assured them of runouts in the main team.

“[Origi] is a good example for players who are not involved too much because he is doing outstanding," Klopp said ahead of Saturday's clash against Cardiff City.

"Dom Solanke too is in a good moment and nobody can see it because he is not playing, like Clyney, like Alberto Moreno, all these guys, you can only play really good football when you train well and you can only train well if the training group is really strong. They are really strong, that’s how it is.

“I forgot Joel Matip. He will play in 97 percent of Premier League and Bundesliga clubs, I am 100 per cent sure.

"And he was not in the squad the last game when he is in outstanding shape. That makes on one hand life comfortable for a manager, but in the other quite difficult.

"We need these players, 100 percent.

"For Divock, the last two games he deserved to be involved. If the boys continue to train like they did the last few weeks and months, they will have their moment.”
