The former Ghana star reckons the newly-appointed man will flourish under the right conditions

Former Ghana and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mallam Yahaya believes Asante Kotoko's new coach Charles 'CK' Akonnor will succeed at the Kumasi-based club with the needed support and freedom.

Akonnor was last week unveiled as new boss of the Porcupine Warriors on a three-year contract, replacing Samuel Paa Kwasi Fabin who resigned from the post.

On Friday, Akonnor led his new outfit in a game for the first time, but it was not a good day at the office as they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat to Ghana's national team in a friendly fixture.

“Kotoko should have patience for Akonnor. He can do the job, he is a very good coach," Yahaya, former coach of King Faisal Babes and New Edubiase United, told Zuria FM .

"We have the same mentality because we both had our training course in Germany.

"I know what he is capable of doing.

“I’m pleading with the management to allow Akonnor to operate with free hands. They shouldn’t interfere in his job. Akonnor, just like myself, hates interference.

“I always say coaching Kotoko or Hearts of Oak is the easiest job in Ghana because you will have all the quality players at your disposal.

"What is left is applying your philosophy.”

Akonnor's last coaching stint was at Ashanti Gold, with whom he parted ways in June after falling out with management.

The former VfL Wolfsburg and Ghana skipper has also coached the likes of Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC.
