Despite being linked with some foreign clubs, Anthony Okpotu says he is fully focused on Lobi Stars.
Okpotu was the highest goalscorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League last season with 19 strikes and interests from abroad have been reported.
But the striker affirms he is not distracted by the talk of an exit from the Pride of Benue as he warms up for the upcoming season.
“I told you when there was an interest from a club from South Africa and there have been few others too that have also made enquiries but not with serious intent. I am here [in Lobi] to play good football and improve on what I achieved last season,” Okpotu told Goal.
“I had a great last season. I will be happy to consolidate on what I achieved last season. I don’t want to be confused as being not having the ambition to take my career to the next level but I am not desperate about it.
“All my thoughts are now with Lobi Stars. I will leave at the right time that will be beneficial for both parties. I want to continue my learning curve ahead of the new season.”
Okpotu was evasive when he was pressed on talks between his representatives and South African top-flight side, Cape Town City.
“I don’t have much to say regarding that for now. I have left everything in the hands of my representatives. I am concentrating on only playing football while I have left that [contract talks] in the hands of those doing it.
“No matter what happens, I want to be remembered with Lobi Stars as a committed player who does all to ensure that the club compete better and also rank among the best in the Nigerian league,” he concluded.
