Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk has dropped a strong hint he could be fit to face Chelsea in London on Saturday.

The Netherlands international was substituted during the 3-0 Premier League win over former club Southampton last weekend with a fitness concern and missed the Carabao Cup defeat to Chelsea in mid-week.

Van Dijk has been unable to train this week and manager Jurgen Klopp faces an anxious wait over the defender's availability.

However, in a post on Instagram, the former Celtic man has suggested he could be fit to help protect Liverpool's 100% start to their Premier League campaign.

"Focussed and looking forward to another big game tomorrow against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge," the 27-year-old wrote on Friday.

Prior to being replaced 55 minutes into Liverpool's sixth straight league win, Van Dijk had played every minute of the 2018-19 campaign.

Since arriving at Anfield for a world record £75m back in January, Van Dijk has been central to Liverpool's much-improved defensive record.

The Reds have kept four clean sheets already this term but their resolve will be tested against a Blues side which has already netted 14 goals in the top flight.

And Klopp admits Van Dijk's absence for the trip to West London will be a blow for his team.

"We have to wait, he didn't train with the team so far," Klopp said. "Virgil is a world-class player and when you miss a world-class player it's not cool.

"Dejan Lovren played his first game in 10 weeks and most of that time he couldn't train.

"If Virgil is fit, he plays. If not, then obviously we have options.

"We can play without Virgil, thank God. But I prefer if we can. The last game he wasn't available, now we will see for tomorrow."
