Barca and Betis close in on Emerson


FC Barcelona and Real Betis are close to agreeing a joint deal for Atletico Mineiro defender Emerson, according to Sport.

The transfer would see the 20-year-old full-back join Real Betis first, with Barca holding certain rights to the player in the future.

However, Betis may delay the deal until the summer as they are prioritising the signing of a striker before the January transfer window closes.

Lukaku deal off


Newcastle's proposed deal to sign defender Jordan Lukaku on loan from Lazio has collapsed, the club have confirmed.

The 24-year-old, brother of Man United striker Romelu Lukaku, was expected to join the Magpies on loan until the end of the season after flying to Tyneside on Friday.

However, the club have since released a statement saying the move is off, with Sky Sports reporting that the deal collapsed on medical grounds.

Benatia leaves Juve for Qatar


Medhi Benatia has joined Qatari club Al Duhail from Juventus in a deal worth €10 million (£9m/$11m), Goal understands.

The Moroccan defender won two Serie A titles and two Coppa Italias since joining Juve from Bayern Munich in 2016.

New York City FC have agreed to terminate the contract of forward Jo Inge Berget.

The Norway international, who joined from Malmo in January 2018, scored four goals in 23 regular season appearances last season. 

PSG consider Coutinho bid


Paris Saint-Germain may make a move for Philippe Coutinho after missing out on Frenkie de Jong, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Barca beat PSG and Man City to the signature of De Jong, who will join from Ajax at the end of the season in a deal with an initial €75 million (£65m/$85m).

That has led the French champions to consider alternatives, including Coutinho, who only moved to the Camp Nou from Liverpool 12 months ago.

Corinthians sign Vagner Love


Corinthians have announced the signing of Vagner Love from Besiktas.

The Brazilian forward returns to Corinthians after previously featuring for the club in 2015 before moving to Monaco.

The bulk of Love's career was spent at CSKA Moscow, while the forward also earned 20 caps with the national team.

Fire sign academy product


The Chicago Fire have signed academy product Andre Reynolds II, the club announced.

Reynolds, a 17-year-old defender, has signed a contract through the 2022 season with a club option for the 2023 season.

The defender spent four years in the Fire's academy and recently featured for the U.S. U-19 national team.

“I’m extremely excited and blessed to be able to play for the Chicago Fire,” said Reynolds. “Having been a fan for years and coming up through the Fire’s youth system, it has always been a dream of mine to represent the crest on a professional level.

"I am ready to continue giving everything I have for this Club and look forward to playing alongside a great group of guys.”

Morata deal not done yet


Diego Simeone says Atletico Madrid's deal to sign Alvaro Morata is far from done despite Chelsea's loan move for Gonzalo Higuain.

Morata has been linked with a return to La Liga this month and a move away from Stamford Bridge was expected to be rubberstamped following Higuain's move from Juventus.

Newcastle hold firm on Almiron


Newcastle United are refusing to increase their offer for Atlanta United's Miguel Almiron, report the Chronicle.

The Magpies have already made a £16million ($21.2m) bid for the Paraguayan forward but have been told to increase that offer to £20million ($26.4m).

That is something they are reluctant to do, with Almiron's agent now reportedly flying to Italy to discuss a potential move to Serie A

Fenerbahce make Zapata bid


Fenerbahce have made an offer to sign defender Christian Zapata from AC Milan, according to Calciomercato.

The Colombian's contract expires at the end of the season and although he remains in talks over a new deal, he has yet to put pen-to-paper.

Milan do not want to lose Zapata for nothing in the summer so may now be willing to let him go before the end of the January transfer window in order to secure a fee.

Arnautovic commits future to West Ham


West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic has ended speculation over a January transfer by confirming he intends to stay at the club until at least the end of the season.

The 29-year-old Austria international had been the subject of a £35 million ($46m) offer from an unnamed Chinese club this month.

Minnesota sign Metanire


Minnesota United have signed French full-back Romain Metanire from Ligue 1’s Reims using Targeted Allocation Money, the club have announced. 

Metanire will join up with his new side pending a medical and visa approval.

The 28-year-old defender joined Reims in 2017, helping the win Ligue 2 in 2017–18 and earn promotion to Ligue 1 for the 2018–19 season.

“Romain is an experienced player and we have the mindset of bringing in players who can come in and compete for a spot straight away,” said MNUFC Head Coach Adrian Heath.

Whitecaps sign Venuto


Brazilian winger Lucas Venuto has signed for Vancouver Whitecaps from FK Austria Wien, according to the club.

The 24-year-old makes the switch to MLS after spending the last five seasons in the Austrian Bundesliga with Wien.  

Whitecaps boss Marc Dos Santos said: “Lucas is a very fast and dynamic winger who has a lot of energy in his game. He always looks to attack, take players on, and he has an incredible work ethic on both sides of the ball."

Marcelo responding positively to being benched


Full-back Marcelo has responded positively to being benched by Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari.

Sergio Reguilon has taken the Brazilian's place as Madrid’s first-choice left-back for the time being, as Marcelo started his first game at left-back on Thursday since January 6.  

Before then, Reguilon had started three consecutive matches at left-back, as the Castilla product continues to impress under Santiago Solari, but he is continuing to train hard with the hope of regaining his spot in Solari’s team.

MLS believes Cincinnati overpaid for Hagglund


MLS chiefs believe FC Cincinnati massively overpaid in order to sign Nick Hagglund from Toronto.

Cincinnati traded £227,400 (€263,000/$300,000) in allocation money and the top spot in the MLS allocation ranking.

An informal survey conducted by Goal of general managers/technical directors around MLS yielded a near unanimous reaction to the transfer, with phrases ranging from "nonsensical" to "just plain dumb" being used to describe the price Cincinnati paid.

Austin to leave Southampton


Charlie Austin will leave leave Southampton in January, with Aston Villa and Wolves two possible destinations, according to the Telegraph.

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has favoured a single striker in his line-ups since taking over in December and the 29 year-old has been told he can leave in order to pursue first-team football elsewhere. 

West Ham tell Arnautovic he can leave for £50m


The Austrian has been subject of interest from China this month

West Ham have told Marko Arnautovic he can leave the club this month if they get an offer of £50 million ($66m), according to Sky Sports.

The 29-year-old has been chased by multiple Chinese clubs this month, with Shanghai SIPG and Guangzhou Evergrande among those credited with an interest.

As the Hammers search for a replacement, Arnautovic has been left out of the squad for Saturday's FA Cup tie with AFC Wimbledon.

Club America interested in Markovic


Liga MX side Club America are interested in Liverpool's Lazar Markovic, reports ESPN.

The 24-year-old is currently playing with Liverpool's U-23 side after a failed move to Anderlecht in August 2018. 

Despite his lack of top-flight minutes, America believe the Serbian can still help their attack in the current Clausura season.

Jardim to replace Henry at Monaco


Monaco will re-appoint Leonardo Jardim as manager after sacking Thierry Henry, according to ESPN FC. 

Jardim was sacked in October after a poor start to the season, but Henry has been unable to fare any better in his first managerial position. 

Jardim won the Ligue 1 title with Monaco in 2016-17. 

Leeds target Cavaleiro loan


Leeds have made a move for Wolves winger Ivan Cavaleiro on loan, reports The Sun. 

Cavaleiro has made five Premier League starts this term, with Leeds hoping the Portugal international will boost their promotion chances. 

Kovac rules out Sanches to PSG


Bayern Munich coach Niko Kovac has told Paris Saint-Germain to forget about trying to sign Renato Sanches in the January window.

The Portugal international has restored a degree of his reputation this season following an unimpressive loan spell with Swansea City last term and, although he has started only four Bundesliga games, Kovac insists he has no plans to let the 21-year-old leave.

"I made it clear that Renato cannot go, even though PSG was and still is very interested," the Bayern boss said.

Spurs working on 'a few options'


Tottenham are working on "a few options" in the transfer market, Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed. 

"There are a few options," the Argentine said. "We will see if we are capable to deliver on it. Now, we have a space with [Mousa] Dembele gone."

Morata's Atletico Madrid move delayed


Alvaro Morata's move away from Chelsea has been delayed due to issues surrounding Gelson Martins' proposed loan switch to Monaco, Goal understands.

The principality club have agreed a deal to take Martins for the remainder of the season, but the sacking of Thierry Henry as the club's manager has put the brakes on a move.

Hammers consider paying Gomez release clause


West Ham are considering paying Celta Vigo the full extent of Maxi Gomez's release clause in order to sign him the January window, the BBC reports.

With Marko Arnautovic's future up in the air, the Irons are keen to bring in a replacement and could meet the Uruguayan's £43 million ($56.5m) buyout.

Should they go through with it, Gomez would become the London side's record signing.

Tosun hopes for Everton stay


Everton striker Cenk Tosun wants to remain at Goodison Park, despite falling out of favour under Marco Silva in recent months.

According to ESPN, the Turkish forward has received offers from Zenit St Petersburg, Valencia and Crystal Palace, but he wants to stay on Merseyside and fight for his place in the Toffees team.

Tosun has contributed two goals and two assists in 16 Premier League appearances for Everton this term.

Real Madrid confident of landing Rabiot


Paris Saint Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot has emerged as a top transfer target for Real Madrid, according to Don Balon.

The Frenchman will leave the Parc Des Princes at the end of the season when his current contract expires, with a number of top European clubs chasing his signature.

Madrid president Florentino Perez is confident of winning the race to sign Rabiot though, with a potential deal mooted before the January window shuts.

Bayern Munich join race to sign Bergwijn


According to Voetbal International, Bayern Munich are interested in signing PSV attacker Steven Bergwijn.

Manchester United are Inter Milan are also chasing the 21-year-old, who has impressed with his displays in the Eredivisie this season.

Bergwijn is expected to remain at PSV until the end of the season, but he is still free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with any potential suitors during the current transfer window.

Moses completes Fenerbahce move


Victor Moses has completed a loan move from Chelsea to Fenerbahce, as the Turkish club has announced on Friday.

The Nigerian full-back will spend six months at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, after arriving in Istanbul on Wednesday.

Moses only managed to appear in two Premier League games for Chelsea during the first half of the season, falling out of favour under Maurizio Sarri.

De Jong done, De Ligt next?


Frenkie de Jong's Ajax team-mate Matthijs de Ligt admits that he would like to play for Barcelona some day, but insists that he is currently focused on performing at Ajax.

"Now that Frenkie has completed his transfer, it [the speculation] can happen to me, but the only thing that interests me is Ajax," he said. "That's the only thing I'm working on.

"I'm just going to do my own thing and everything will work out if I do that. I think anyone would like to play for Barcelona at some point in their career."

Defender? Attacker? Where is De Jong best?


Speaking of De Jong, Johan Cruyff's former assistant and current Ajax scout Bruins Slot explains exactly what Barca are getting in the versatile 21-year-old:

Florentin Pogba believes there are only three sides that could make his brother better, and there is no chance of him joining Manchester City.

Paul Pogba would only leave Manchester United for Barcelona or Real Madrid, claims Florentin, with the World Cup winner happy again at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Frenchman stated in an interview this week: “When my brother leaves Manchester United, there are only three clubs he can go to improve. He's not going to go to Man City, so he'll come to Spain: to Barca or Madrid.”

Miazga joins Reading on loan from Chelsea


Chelsea defender Matt Miazga has joined Reading on loan until the end of the season, as the Championship club has announced on Friday.

The American centre-back returned to Stamford Bridge earlier in the month after his loan spell at Nantes was terminated and now he is being shipped back out until the summer.

Reading boss Jose Gomes expressed his delight after the deal was struck with Chelsea, stating: "Matt is a skilful, committed and commanding presence at the centre of defence and I am very pleased we have been able to welcome him into our family."

De Ligt keen to join De Jong at Barca


Barcelona are exploring the possibility of signing Ajax defender Matthijs De Ligt, according to Mundo Deportivo

Frenkie De Jong completed his move to the Camp Nou on Thursday from Ajax, but will remain at the Johan Cruyff Arena for the remainder of the current campaign.

De Ligt is keen to keep playing with his Dutch teammate beyond this season and Barca are thusly now lining up a potential bid for his services.

Paredes set for PSG medical


Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Leandro Paredes has agreed terms on a transfer to Paris Saint German, with his medical set to take place later today.

According to RMC Sport, the 24-year-old will move to the Parc Des Princes for €40m ($45m, £35m), signing a four-and-a-half-year deal with the French champions.

Paredes had also been linked with a switch to Chelsea this month, but it appears that PSG have now won the race to secure his services.


Juventus target Bruno Alves


Parma defender Bruno Alves is the subject of interest from Juventus - according to Tuttosport via Record.

The Old Lady are lining up potential replacements for Medhi Benatia, who looks set to leave Turin during the current window.

Alves, 37, is top of their list, having impressed during his debut season at Parma with 19 Serie A appearances already under his belt this term.

Milan step up Carrasco pursuit


AC Milan are still hopeful of signing Dalian Yifang midfielder Yannick Carrasco before the transfer window closes, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Belgian superstar has already said yes to a San Siro switch, but he must now agree to take a cut on his €11m (£10m, $12m) per year wages to complete the transfer.

Carrasco has contributed seven goals and five assists in 25 Chinese Super League matches for Dalian Yifang, having joined the club in February last year.

Bakary Sako set to rejoin Crystal Palace


West Bromwich Albion midfielder Bakary Sako is on the verge of rejoining Crystal Palace, according to The Guardian.

The Mail international is currently undergoing a medical at the Eagles' Beckenham training centre, ahead of signing a six-month deal.

Palace released Sako last summer, but West Brom signed the 30-year-old as a free agent in October. 

Soares agrees Inter switch


Southampton defender Cedric Soares has agreed terms on a transfer to Inter Milan, according to BBC Sport.

The 27-year-old is already in Milan to tie up the deal, which is expected to be completed later today.

Soares will initially move to the San Siro on loan until the end of the season, but Inter will have the option to make the move permanent for £9.5m ($12m).

Parlour backs Ramsey to be a success at Juve


Ray Parlour believes Aaron Ramsey will be an asset to Juventus and that he'll thrive alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Arsenal midfielder is all set to leave on a free transfer in the summer, with the Welshman poised to sign a five-year deal with Juve.

And Parlour believes his ability to create space for him team-mates will prove valuable to the Serie A champions, although admits it's a "shame" he's leaving the Gunners.

Arsenal make contact with PSG regarding Nkunku


Arsenal have opened negotiations with Paris Saint Germain over a possible January deal for Christopher Nkunku - according to ESPN.

Gunners boss Unai Emery is a keen admirer of the midfielder and the club are hoping to lure him to the Emirates Stadium on loan until the end of the season.

Nkunku has featured in 13 Ligue 1 matches for PSG this term, contributing one goal and one assist.

Juventus close in on Caceres


Juventus are closing in on a deal to sign Martin Caceres from Lazio, Goal understands.

The Uruguayan is keen to join up with Massimiliano Allegri's side, with Juve now discussing figures with their Serie A rivals.

The 31-year-old has had two previous spells with Juve and now looks all set to return again, replacing Mehdi Benatia, who is heading out of the club.

Gazzetta dello Sport claims that PSG want to sign the Brazilian in addition to Zenit midfielder Leandro Paredes.

Valencia make €8m Chicharito move



Valencia have made a move to sign West Ham forward Chicharito, according the Marca.

The Liga club have lodged an initial €8 million (£7m/$9m) bid for the Mexican striker, although the Hammers are reportedly holding out for a figure of up to €14m (£12m/$16m).

The report also states that Monaco are also looking at a potential deal for the former Manchester United man.

Serie A champions Juventus are plotting a move for Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Bianconeri are expecting to see Medhi Benatia leave the club and consider a Denmark international at Stamford Bridge to be an ideal replacement in their centre-half ranks.

Donovan to make $250,000 as part of indoor deal


Landon Donovan will make $250,000 (£190,560) to play the 13 games that make up the remainder of the Major Arena Soccer League season, according to ESPN.

The USMNT legend is set to join the San Diego Sockers, making him far and away the highest-paid player in the indoor league.

"There is crossover," said Donovan of playing indoors. "In the end, the objective is the same: trying score goals and prevent the other team from scoring. But there are a lot of nuances I'm going to have to learn."

Everton will consider loan offers for Bolasie


The winger recently returned from the West Midlands

Everton boss Marco Silva has suggested the Toffees would consider a loan offer for Yannick Bolasie this month after the winger returned from a temporary spell at Aston Villa.

Silva told reporters: “It is a possibility of course [another loan]. Until now we have had no enquiries. We will do what is the best solution for him and us as a club.

"We have four wingers in our squad and we are happy with them. What I don’t want is for Bolasie not to play again. It doesn’t mean I have already decided what will happen. Let’s see what will happen at the end of the market.

"When he took the decision to come back we didn’t expect it, even though he has that option in his contract.”

Parma want Rannochia


Parma want to sign Andrea Ranocchia from Inter Milan, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

The centre-back's contract expires at the end of the season and Parma are said to be interested in signing him on a free transfer when his deal runs out.

If Inter seal Diego Godin's move, it could free up Ranocchia to leave San Siro. 

Godin to sign pre-contract agreement with Inter


Atletico defender to leave

Diego Godin has undergone a secret medical with Inter and is close to signing a pre-contract agreement with the Serie A club, according to Sky Sports Italy.

The Atletico Madrid captain's deal runs out at the end of the season, and had been the subject of interest from Manchester United and Manchester City.

But the defender has chosen a move to Milan, and will sign a two-year deal ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
