Keita’s Liverpool start pleases Klopp despite injury concerns

The Guinea international has suffered two injury worries this season but his gaffer is pleased with his performance since his move to Anfield

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his satisfaction with Naby Keita’s start to the season.

The 23-year-old has made 10 appearances in all competitions for the Anfield outfit since his big-money move from German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in the summer.

However, the impressive start has been dented twice by injury setbacks. In early October, the midfielder suffered a back injury before picking up a hamstring problem while on international duty.

As a result, the former Salzburg player has missed the Reds' last four games, although he has returned to training ahead of their Champions League clash with Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday.

And his boss, hoping he will be fit to play a part in Belgrade, has disclosed his satisfaction with the performance of the midfielder.

“It was a very good start. He did a proper pre-season from the first day, played fantastic games and made a good start in the league,” Klopp told club website.

“Then he had two [injury] things – in Naples and then with the national team. It was not that long, it only feels it. It was four games.

“Yesterday was the first time in 100 per cent training so we will now have to see what we do with him for tomorrow. [The start] could have been a bit better, but only because of the injuries; all the rest was good.”
