Keisuke Honda and Fernando Torres on revealed list of FFA marquee targets - reports

Six world class players are being looked at as potential A-League recruits in years to come

Marquee players appear to be back in the A-League's sights with Football Federation Australia drawing up a list of targets designed to revitalise the league.

As such a number of players have already been linked with Franck Ribery and Andres Iniesta among those touted as possible targets for the FFA.

French outlet Lucarne Opposée reports that it's got its hands on the full list of marquees being looked at, with Iniesta and Ribery reportedly on it and joined by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Keisuke Honda, Fernando Torres and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The list of targets appear to be long-term with the players being looked at to join the A-League in the future and not necessarily simply next season.

Ribery, Huntelaar and Schweinsteiger have all recently signed one-year contract extensions with their clubs meaning they won't be making the move down under anytime soon.

Iniesta meanwhile shot down a potential switch to Australia, identifying China or Japan as his next likely destination after Barcelona

Torres will however become a free agent with his contract at Atletico Madrid expiring at the end of the season, while Honda could well follow in the footsteps of Shinji Ono and join the A-League after a stint in Mexico.

FFA CEO David Gallop has stressed the importance of marquees again moving forward in the A-League, admitting that though financially difficult to lure big name players, it is achievable to get them.

"There might be better money on offer in other leagues but it does demonstrate that we’re back in the game and if we can pull off a player like [Iniesta] then fans across the league would be excited," Gallop said last week.

"The game has many mouths to feed and that would require a significant investment mainly from one of our clubs but there is funds available.

"The A-League offers a great competition to play but also a great lifestyle. As we saw with Del Piero, that was a big selling point."
