Kaizer Chiefs defender Mathoho focused on PSL crown

While Mathoho is excited that Chiefs managed to book their place in the Last 16 of the Nedbank Cup, he still feels the league title is more important

Defender Eric Mathoho has said that winning the PSL title remains a priority for Kaizer Chiefs as they prepare to face Baroka FC on Saturday.

The 27-year-old warned his teammates to guard against complacency following their comfortable win over Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup Last 32.

Steve Komphela's men are three points behind leaders Bidvest Wits with 10 league games to go.

"The league is a big focus for us and it is so important that we shift all energy to that and make sure that we continue with our good run. Often it’s easy to lose focus after a good cup victory, but we must never forget what is more important," Mathoho told the Amakhosi website.

Tower admitted that beating Baroka at the Polokwane Stadium will help them stay in touch with the rest of their title rivals.

"This is a great opportunity for us to stay in touch with the teams above us. This league race is only heating up now," he said.

Mathoho is aware that they will face a Baroka side brimming with confidence following their recent win in the Nedbank Cup.

"Baroka will feel a bit confident after their win this past weekend, but I think we have enough [quality] to get the three points if we can have a similar approach to the one against Stellenbosch. If we play our normal football we can beat any team," concluded Mathoho.
