ISL 2018-19: Josep Gombau – Delhi haven’t been scoring goals

The Pride are now winless in their opening eight matches of the ISL 2018-19 season…

Delhi Dynamos  are enduring their worst run of form in the Indian Super League (ISL) as they went down 3-2 to FC Goa on Thursday evening.

The Lions had several chances of their own to win the tie but wastefulness in front of goal eventually came to hurt them.

Coach Josep Gombau rued his team’s chances but mentioned that Goa were more clinical in their finishing and hence, took three points.

“We played very well. We did that game that we planned. We had a lot of chances to win the game. I am satisfied with all the players. It's just the result that seems a little bit unfair to me. At one moment the game could have been 1-3 or 1-4, but of course, the difference is that they killed the game from the chances they had,” he stated.

He also suggested that the  style of football of FC Goa and Delhi Dynamos is similar since the two coaches started their football journey from FC Barcelona.

“Goa is one of the strongest teams in the ISL. The way that Goa and we play is very similar. We came from the same club (Barcelona) and we have the same ideas,” he mentioned.

Delhi have 10 matches to salvage their season as their chances of making it into the play-offs look bleak. However, Gombau remained optimistic and spoke of the club’s long term objectives.

“We have to go game-by-game. It has been a very difficult schedule and now that we have a break, it is good. We need to work hard and we will see where we are at the end of the season. The club has a good plan and a long term project.

“If you see, from the games that we lost, the difference is that we haven't been scoring goals,” he concluded.
