The outfit from the capital city are placed at the bottom of the league standings.

On Wednesday evening, Delhi Dynamos emerged victorious at Guwahati in a 1-0 result against NorthEast United as Kalu Uche registered a win in the 87th minute. The campaign for the playoffs is done and dusted for the outfit from the capital city but head coach Miguel Angel Portugal believes his side will not take the forthcoming fixtures lightly.

‘’The win was important because we want to leave the last position. We are always aiming for a win. The next four matches will be like a final for us; it will motivate the players to play to win,’’ he commented.

The Lions have clinched just three wins in the season so far from a total of 14 matches which keeps them at the bottom of the league standings. Assessing their performance in the season, Portugal revealed, ‘’We have a simple team. I have worked very much for our idea and philosophy of football. I am very glad about the performance and win. We have played well and lost in other matches because we have a problem with dead balls.’’

Despite the unimpressive campaign, youngsters Lallianzuala Chhangte and Vinit Rai gained recognition for their contribution this season. Gaffer Portugal, who claims to have watched the FIFA U-17 World Cup which took place in India last year, suggests that the youth needs to be trained well for a successful career. Further, he expressed his belief in the bright future of Indian football.

‘’The young players need education and preparation for a future in football. In Europe, the culture of football has been there for a long time but it is new in India. However, I have confidence that the future is good for India,’’ he signed off.
