Injury rules Rivers United’s skipper out of Caf Confederation Cup tie

The Pride of Rivers’ captain won’t be available for selections in Tuesday evening tie after he failed to recover from an injury.

Rivers United have ruled their enterprising skipper, Austin Festus out of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage tie with KCCA of Uganda slated for Tuesday evening at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt because of his failure to recover from the muscle strain injury he copped against Lobi Stars last Friday.

Festus was substituted before the half hour mark in Makurdi after he was injured by one of Lobi’s players and it was thought that the inspirational captain will recover in time for the make or mar encounter against the Ugandans but Rivers United’s head coach, Stanley Eguma revealed that the skipper would be missed in the game and that they have made adjustment to those that will face KCCA and there won’t be any noteworthy vacuum.

“We will definitely miss our captain but we must look ahead and make do with other players that are available and fit. We had some new players that have not been regular in the game with Lobi Stars and the injury to our captain will give room for me to test other players in the team. It is a game we have to win and we are doing everything to ensure that we achieve our target,” Eguma told Goal.

It was also disclosed by the head coach that some other players like Ifeanyi Nweke, Gabriel Wassa and Lukman Mohammed who sustained injury in the highly temperamental game in Makurdi last Friday have been deemed fit and are available for selections.

Rivers United have only won a game from three encounters and they must deliver the maximum points against the Kampala based side if they want to remain in contention for a quarter final ticket.
