The Indian Women’s National Team is set to depart for Spain to participate in the COTIF Tournament to be held from August 1 to 6. The 20-member squad will leave for the tournament on July 27 for what is the first-ever European tour in history for the women’s team.

The team had been undergoing a training camp recently as the uncertainty over their participation in the Asian Games prevailed. The exposure trip to Spain has been arranged as part of the team’s preparation for the upcoming Olympic Qualifiers which are to be held in November this year.

All India Football Federation (AIFF) General Secretary Kushal Das gave the team an official send-off at the Football Headquarters on Thursday in the presence of National Team Director Abhishek Yadav.

“This is a very important trip especially with the Olympic Qualifiers being around the corner. Women in Indian sports are achieving laurels at the highest level and the Indian Women’s Hockey Team are currently unbeaten in the Hockey World Cup. The AIFF has extensive plans for Women’s Football in India and all of you are part of the plan. Good luck for the tournament,” the AIFF General Secretary stated.

The Indians will take on the Moroccan National Team in the tournament apart from the club teams of Fundacion Albacete, Levante U.D and Madrid C.F. Head coach Maymol Rocky believes the trip will be an excellent chance for the team to test their mettle against high-quality European opponents.

It's going to be a wonderful opportunity for us to assess ourselves against the European opponents as well as Morocco National Team. We're eagerly waiting for it to begin and will put up a brave fight,” she said.

Her views were echoed by goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan.

“This exposure tour wouldn’t have been possible had not AIFF and Sports Authority of India (SAI) arranged it for us. The tour to Europe is a historic one and it will help us overcome the mental barrier of playing against girls in Europe and Africa,” the goalkeeper said.

India will begin their campaign on August 1 against Fundacion Albacete before taking on Madrid in their final engagement on August 6.

India’s fixtures:

August 1: India vs Fundación Albacete.

August 3: India vs Levante U.D.

August 5: India vs Morocco.

August 6: India vs Madrid C.F.
