Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann has been hailed as “one of the best players in the world” by team-mate Lucas Hernandez.

The 27-year-old France international showcased his talent in the Europa League final on Wednesday, as he scored twice to lead Atletico to a 3-0 success over Marseille in Lyon.

The former Real Sociedad player took his goals with great authority to provide the platform for the Spanish side’s comfortable victory and Lucas hailed him after the match.

“He’s incredible, one of the best players in the world,” he said.

Griezmann has, however, been strongly linked with a summer move away from Diego Simeone’s side, with Barcelona leading the race for his signature.

Lucas added his voice to those of his team-mates who do not want to see him move.

“I hope that he’ll stay here for many years with us,” the Marseille-born defender said.

While the forward is a sure-fire bet to be drafted into Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the World Cup on Thursday, Lucas is also hopeful of being named in the panel but says he will not allow it to define his season.

“I’m really happy, proud of what I have done this season,” he said. “I’ve improved myself a lot, I’ve learned many things and I’ve acquired a good deal of experience. I hope I will be in it.

“Where will I be when it is announced? With my family, my wife, my mum and my brother.”
