Highlands Park have struggled to explain why they decided against signing former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mandla Masango.
The 29-year-old attacker, who is currently a free agent, spent some time with the Lions of the North while on trial.
Highlands Park head coach Owen Da Gama has now confirmed that Masango has stopped training with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) side.
“No, he is no longer with us, he left last week,” Da Gama told The Citizen.
When asked why the former South Africa international was not offered a deal, Da Gama admitted that there were other factors that led to the team releasing the player.
However, the former South Africa under-23 head coach was not willing to discuss them but indicated that the club decided not to sign any player with only nine PSL games left this season.
“I cannot give such reasons, but the most important thing is at this stage in the league, it was not a priority," he continued.
"There were other factors as well but to respect the player he is no longer with us," he added.
Masango, who represented South Africa at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals in Equatorial Guinea, became a free agent after being released by Danish club Randers FC last year.
