The 18-year-old scored his first goal for his new side on Monday evening, but the praise he received from his manager will have pleased him equally

West Ham Under-23 boss Terry Westley claims that winger Nathan Holland reminds him of a “really young Ryan Giggs”.

The 18-year-old arrived at the London Stadium in January, but has already drawn great praise from his new manager, who compared him to the Manchester United and Wales icon.

Speaking after a 2-0 home Premier League 2 victory over Fulham on Monday, Westley said: “What a talent we’ve got on our hands. He was skipping past players, reminding me of a really young Ryan Giggs. I think he particularly caught people eyes tonight.”

Holland’s strike was the first Under-23 goal at West Ham’s new home, and Westley was pleased his side put on such a show.

“What a great stadium and we wanted the players to really express themselves. First half I thought we particularly done that and second half was different in terms of the grit and determination they showed when they were up against it,” he added.

Holland is an England Under-19 international, who was previously on the books of Everton. He has played three times for the Hammers’ youth side so far, and his strike on Monday was his first for his new side.

Giggs achieved iconic status during his playing career, in which he won a string of honours, including 13 Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues.
