Selangor have been drawn in Group D of the 2017 Malaysia Cup alongside JDT, Terengganu and Sarawak, avoiding the so-called group of death; Group A which consists of Pahang, PKNP FC, T-Team and Negeri Sembilan.
Terengganu compete in the Premier League this season, while Sarawak are Super League (MSL) strugglers, and while JDT are the current MSL leaders, in the past years they have not prioritised the Malaysia Cup; which does not offer a spot in any Asian competitions.
However, Selangor returnee Andik Vermansah will not underestimate the challenges in the group. When met by Goal earlier this week, the Indonesia winger said:
"It will not be easy, as the other teams are still formidable.
"We have to work hard, in order to succeed in the competition," said Andik.
The 25-year old player won the 2015 Malaysia Cup with the Red Giants, and although Selangor's appearance in the next edition's final match did not end in another title win, the Indonesian was entrusted with the task of wearing the armband for the side in the knockout stages.
