Ghana international and former Arsenal youth product Emmanuel Frimpong has signed a two-year contract with Swedish side AFC Eskilstuna from Russian club Arsenal Tula as a free agent, ahead of the upcoming Allsvenskan season which kicks off in March.

The 25-year-old, who was highly tipped for success at the highest stage by many pundits in England, joined Tula from FK Ufa in 2016 alongside Ghana defender Awal Mohammed after a botched move to Major League Soccer side Kansas Sporting City.

However, the duo found life frustrating at the Russian club, with Frimpong making just three league appearances with only one start, leading to a mutual termination of his contract. Awal has also left for Ghana to join local giants Asante Kotoko.

"Emmanuel Frimpong has signed a two-year contract with AFC Eskilstuna. The contract is written over the next two seasons and we wish him the best of stay with us," a club statement read.

Sporting director of the club Azad Budak lauds the qualities of the box-to-box midfielder.

"We have acquired a strong and skilful midfielder at the club," he said.

"This is a solicitation that means a lot to the club. It shows that we have the capacity to recruit this type of players to complement our squad for the season," he added.

Frimpong has previously represented English clubs Fulham, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Charlton Athletic and Sheffield FC.

Eskilstuna gained promotion to the Allsvenskan last season after finishing second behind IK Sirius in the second-tier.

Frimpong boasts of one appearance with the Black Stars after his nationality switch from England.
