Alaekwe disclosed that they left for Port Harcourt to honour the date with the Pride of Rivers because they see the game as an ideal chance for them to test their fitness level if the league season is to be continued today.
He said they agreed to play Stanley Eguma’s men at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt because they have not been that active with test games since the league proceeded on a break early June.
“We are going to play against Rivers United on Friday afternoon and we see it as an opportunity for us to see ourselves and how prepared we are if the league season is to continue immediately,” Alaekwe told Goal.
“We were very happy when our coach (Ladan Bosso) informed us that we are going to be playing against Rivers United. We left Nnewi this morning and we are going to play the game later in the day.
“We won’t have any problem with coping because we know that we need matches like this to keep us ready. We have not played too many of them and it is the reason the game is vital to us. We will try our best to make ourselves available and ready for the game.”
