Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric was the big winner on the night, taking home the The Best Men's Player of the Year award.
One of the biggest talking points on Twitter was the Puskas award. Many fans believe that Salah's goal was not the best. The Egypt forward scored the wonder goal for Liverpool against Everton last season.
There was also support for Women's Player of the Year, Marta in South Africa.
Finally, fans were confused about how David de Gea was named in the Team of the Year, but not in the top three keepers of the year.
Read all the reactions and explanations for the awards below.
You’ll have to agree with me that football people have style and class when it comes to fashion. They have that *THING* lol— BK___ONE (@Brilliekhuzwayo) September 24, 2018
Congratulations Marta on being named as the Worlds best Womens Footballer of the year pic.twitter.com/bTmx0M9iei— Janine Van Wyk (@Janinevanwyk5) September 24, 2018
I think Navas should have atleast got a nomination..— Mark Mayambela (@ProfMayambela12) September 24, 2018
Reading a lot of Tweets think #TheBest #Puskas goal is only determined by a kick, a jump or distance... That's subjective, like my opinion: when a goal includes much more attributes: technique, skill, poise, intelligence, power etc. then it's superior than kicking & hoping #Salah— Ignat Football (@IgnatFootball) September 25, 2018
Courtois GK of the season but not in the FIFA XI, Salah nominee for Ballon d’or but didn’t make FIFA XI.— Michael Morton (@MMORTON6) September 25, 2018
And Salah scored about 5 better goals than the one that won Puskas...
Seconded, these awards lack credibility and it's FIFAs fault. How on earth is Alves the best right back when you have Walker, Kimmich, Carvajal, etc. How is Courtios the best goalkeeper, but not good enough for the world 11? The list is endless mara FIFA needs to clean it's house— Kaizer Madrid (@tp_drizzy) September 24, 2018
Salah not in the FIFA World 11 but in the top 3 Best FIFA PLAYERS. Is it a mistake or is there something wrong with the way these players are selected.— Duncan Crowie (@duncan_crowie) September 24, 2018
The reason some players got into the FifPro World XI but not into the top three in their position for #TheBest (such as De Gea in or Mo Salah and Courtois missing out on the team) is that there's different voting systems in place for each award. Not the 1st time this occurred 2/3— Ignat Football (@IgnatFootball) September 24, 2018

Quite clear who's gonna win the main Award now.....— robertmarawa (@robertmarawa) September 24, 2018
SAFPU would like to congratulate Marta and Luka Modric for winning the best women's and men's Fifa Footballer of the year awards respectively. We also like to say congratulations to all other winners!! pic.twitter.com/2fK5tXzpoS— SAFPU (@SAFPU_Official) September 24, 2018
Like I've said before, such criteria is not fair since a player from a team like Egypt is obviously going to have a disadvantage. Everyone knows Salah was not fit for the World Cup but still scored 2goals in Russia. You also cant fault him for the injury in the UCL final #TheBest— Ignat Football (@IgnatFootball) September 24, 2018
Helping Twitter understand some decisions by Fifa #TheBest awards: Scoring a bicycle kick doesn't automatically win you the award, there's many scored throughout the world each year, there's other criteria that makes a great goal, & choosing 1 over another is never objective 1/3— Ignat Football (@IgnatFootball) September 24, 2018
What did David De Gea really do?— Mark Mayambela (@ProfMayambela12) September 24, 2018
Marta does it again pic.twitter.com/EO41lXNNWO— Fran Hilton-Smith (@Franzo_safa) September 24, 2018
I was expecting electrifying award ceremony but this is pure nonsense... if they were choosing based on national team performance then why is De Gea n other Spain players are there??? If club based teams then why KDB n Mohammad are not there?? This is pure rebuff #FIFA— Cijo (@SeanegoThapelo) September 24, 2018
