Enugu Rangers skipper, Okey Odita says he expects an interesting group stage opener when they square up against Imama Amapakabo led El Kanemi Warriors on Monday at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
Amapakabo coached the Flying Antelopes to their first league title in 32 years during the 2014-15 Nigeria Professional Football League season before he was sacked six months later due to poor results.
Odita was among the players that worked with the current Super Eagles assistant coach and he said that though it would be tough facing a team led by his former boss he and his teammates will be as professional as possible to ensure that they start the group stage on a good note in Kano.
“It will be tough as we play against familiar foes like El Kanemi Warriors and Sunshine Stars as well as little known Supreme Court,” Odita told the club media.
“We are going there to compete effectively for one of the quarter-final tickets so to realize our dreams of emerging champions at the end of the season. I look forward to the final day in Asaba with nostalgic feelings as my place is not far from the stadium.
“I know that it is going to be a great match when we play against our former coach. We must stay as professionals as possible and try to concentrate on what brought us to Kano.”The Flying Antelopes are seeking their sixth Federation Cup title having won it on five occasions in 1974, 1975, 1976, 1981 and 1983.
