Ashanti Gold coach Bashir Hayford has surprisingly resigned from the club after eight matches into the new season, with the club sitting 15th in the Ghana Premier League.

Hayford joined the club in 2012, few months after parting ways with Asante Kotoko. He led the Obuasi-based outfit to win the 2015 league title, guiding them to qualify for the Caf Champions League in the process for the first time in almost a decade.

"This is a personal decision and I want it to remain like that for now," Hayford told Goal.

"I have played my role with dedication over the few years and I think it's time to move on. I won the league title two seasons ago after Ashanti Gold failed to lift it in almost two decades.

"I want to thank everyone at the club for their support and advises during my time with them," he added.

Ashanti Gold will host bottom-placed Bolga All Stars at the Len Clay Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Goal understands that Ashanti Gold's top hierarchy will meet on Friday to decide on the way forward.
