The legendary South African striker would love to see Mothiba, Erasmus and Tau feature for Bafana at the same time

Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has urged South African players to work hard and stop relying on talent alone.

“South African players have a mentality of thinking that talent beats hard work,” McCarthy said to the media after City's 3-2 win over Bidvest Wits.

City went to the tunnel trailing 2-0, but they bounced back to steal a 3-2 win in a Premier Soccer League (PSL) match which was played at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday night.

“I have to constantly remind them that in order to put your talent to the shot then you have to work hard. I think that’s what we did, and in the second half, the quality started to come out,” he added.

Former Orlando Pirates striker Erasmus has been in good form for the Citizens having netted against Mamelodi Sundowns and Wits last week.

McCarthy believes that it is time for Erasmus to be recalled to the Bafana Bafana squad with the national team set to face Libya later this month.

“Imagine having a front three for Bafana of Kermit Erasmus, Lebo Mothiba and Percy Tau, frightening. It’s a work in progress though, but Afcon is the intention,” concluded McCarthy.

Bafana are set to face Libya away for their crucial 2019 Caf African Cup of Nations qualifier and South Africa coach Stuart Baxter was among the spectators at the Bidvest Stadium as he plans to select a formidable squad.
